Who do you think has been hockey's biggest goon? My personal pick is Claude Lemieux, but since watching this last year's playoffs, Chris Pronger and the Niedermayer brothers have been kind of flirting with goon-dom (if that's a word). Anyone agree/disagree?

The biggest goon in terms of size si definitely Derek Boogaard of the Minnesota Wild. I mean, how many players supplement their income by holding a 'fight camp' for hockey players in the summer

The biggest goon to date in the game has probably been a player like Paul Higgins of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Link Gaetz of the Minnesota North Stars, Jimmy Mann of the Winterpeg Jets, Torrie Robertson of the Washington Capitals and Hartford Whalers, and on and on. These players were solely in the league as enforcers and had no redeeming qualities as a hockey player (Higgins never scored a point in his career and averaged MORE than a fight a game).

I surprises me to see some people called goons. Claude Lemiex has represented his country in Canada/World Cup competitions...Pronger has won everything known to man. Chris Neil is highly respected around the league as a ****-disturber (and can score 20 goals annually). These don;t fit the job of goon. If they did......................I think everybody would be choosing Todd Bertuzzi for his gooning of Steven Moore.

To Roy Hobbs
An excellent list there!

The Flyers are nothing like the Predators. The Predators are a much faster, more skilled team than the Flyers. The Flyers just got extremely fortunate that the #8 seeded Canadiens knocked off the top 2 teams in the conference. Just because the Canadiens beat the top 2 teams doesn't mean that the Flyers beat the best team in the conference. The Hawks had to work much harder to get to the Stanley Cup than the Flyers did and they are not about to take it easy on the Flyers. I think the Flyers should be worried about how well the Hawks have been playing, and yes the beat down of the Sharks should scare them, because much like the Sharks the Flyers are just a bunch of big goons that like to hit and are a MUCH slower team than the Hawks. I don't think Flyers fans realize how quick the Hawks are and how well they move the puck around. I mean they have looked AWFUL in almost half of the games they've played this postseason and they've still come out on top. The Flyers on the other hand have been playing at the top of their game all postseason so there will be no surprises.

The author of this question said "EVER" - my answer is Philadelphia Flyer # 8 (No not Dave Schultz) but DAVE HOYDA. goto youtube and witness Clark Gilles kick this punks ***. He took shots a Mike bossy, Ed Johnstone, and other lightweights. A TOTAL DIRTBAG (typical Flyers no less)

You see, C. Lemieux, Nilan, Probert, Simon, and even Tie Domi aren't GOONS, they play regular shifts, provide security and also chip in with scrappy play.

A true goon sees little playing time, only fights and usually has a short career.

The biggest goons ever would definately be Bob Probert, Marty McSorley, Donald Brashear, or Tiger Williams. The cheapest player ever (another classification of goon in my eyes) would have to be Bryan Marchment. That little (expletive) was the dirtiest player ever to lace up skates. He was always looking to take someone out with a knee or a dirty hit. He was/is a Dirty Bast**d that deliberately tried to take players out of the game. He was suspended more then once a season on average (I believe it was something like 13 times in 12 seasons) and seriously injured countless players such as: Modano, Bure, Kariya, Niewendyk, Gartner(gave the guy a collapsed lung with a dirty hit), Wendel Clark, etc (the list goes on). He should have been banned from hockey for his gooness!

The most successful/most feared goon in my opinon was Bob Probert in his prime. My other picks would be Stu 'Grim Reaper' Grimson, Tony Twist, and Willie Plett. My pick for the most unlikeable goon is the infamous Tie Domi who was regularly beaten upon by Probert :D

Tony Twist was a big goon. He played 445 NHL games and only scored 28 points.
