I have a 16ft 10 inch boat for sale around my house. The boat is in really good condition, he started up the boat, and put it in forward and reverse with the muffs on the motor to show me it worked. Today im going to take it out on the water. I'm going to buy it for 3000.00. What are somethings i should look for with this boat motor wise. Im scared im going to buy the boat for 3000.00 and have to put a couple grand into it. he said he just had it serviced, and there is absolutley nothing wrong with the motor. Help me out PLEASE.

DO NOT BUY THIS BOAT ------------ Bayliner when new is great because the original owner will take better care of overall boat.. YOU do not know what this boat has been thru and the 2.3L engine is small for a 17 footer (4 cylinder motor has been worked to death and is 20 years old) ... pass on this water ride and keep looking for a newer watercraft ... even if you have to spend more money it is to your advantage to buy newer ... any other questions ??? you are welcome to e-mail me ... Bayliners are known for good engineering but poor quality control, its impossible to tell if this a good boat or not but still seems pricey for a 20 year old boat and 20 year old motor. You can get a brand new 17.5 for 11,600 (msrp), probably cheaper this time of year near the end of boating season

2000 -2500 top dollar.
Unless motor is newer than '88
Jump up and down on all floor surfaces to make sure no rot under the fiberglass, especially in rear.
Run it in the water and look under the hood ( so to speak) to see any oil or water leaks.
Check all electronics , ie lights, bilge, stereo, any fish finder or depth finder equip.
Check upholstry good for little tears, as they will grow.

Just be careful...that is 20 years old
