Boys Scouts (or in this case, cub scouts) is great. He'll make new friends, you get to bond with him with the projects, and he'll see you being a man. If you can, volunteer to be a leader, I didn't at first, then became an assistant. I wished I would have been a leader from the start. My son is 15, went through cub scouts, webelows, and boy scouts with the same group right up to high school. Their all still great friends, and we all (families) still camp together every now and then.

Our church has lots of Father/Son and Mother/Daughter programs that are lots of fun, but they may only be once or twice a month.

Check www.craigslist.org, local RV stores, or the newspaper for a small popup camper, I bought mine for $1200. My daughter even goes with us now, and my wife is starting to warm up to it. State campsites are all over Texas, and cost around $10-$15 a night. My son and I went to Lockhart State park, swam, fished, and played golf; it cost me $60 to camp, $40 in groceries, and $50 in gas to get there and back (your closer to it). $150 for 4 days worth of memories, what a bargain. My last trip was pricier, we stayed at the Pioneer resort in Port Aransas, it was around $30 a night. The whole family went, and we stayed 5 days, cost around $500 for the whole vacation.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is an awesome program for this kind of situation. They're a national group, there is definitely a branch in your area.
