Ok Here it is most sites that I have checked will only book for 4 people or make you add on an extra room.

As mentioned before try www.kayak.com it will search the web for the best prices out there. Although some airlines don't post there prices with them (ie: southwest airlines)

book your air fair that way. Book your hotel separately.
Go to www.priceline.com and check the kind of hotels you are looking for, you can also bid on them for even a better price.

Priceline assumes there are 2 people to the room so when you get there ask for double beds and an extra room key.

Many hotels only let 4 per room since you have young children I would not mention it to them. You will most likely have an extra charge for having more than 2 people in the room, but it is still less than 2 rooms.

Have fun and good luck

Try booking your room directly on the hotels web sites. Your problem is that you want to stay over a weekend. On Friday night, LV fills up with people from California, they all leave on Sunday morning.

If you go to say the MGM Grand website and shop for a room, what you will see is that Friday and Saturday nights are more than double the price than any other night of the week. The exception is if there is a big convention in town, then every night is expensive.

Rooms at places on the strip - MGM Grand, Luxor, Billagio, Ceasers, etc.. are going to be expensive. You can save money if you go off strip. Look at the link below.

Regarding a car, you probably don't need one. A cab ride from the airport to a hotel on the strip is $10. You can ride the monorail or take a taxi or walk or ride the bus. If you want to go out to Boulder Dam, then you might want a car. If you just going to be on the strip - you don't need a car.

Another tip if you want to see a show do not buy the tickets in advance. Get the tickets at one of the half price - day of show - ticket places on the strip.
