If you are driving, rather than taking the ferry, It's 460 miles. Plan on 2 days, unless you get up awful early in the morning. The road into Anchorage is good but last year a lot of reconstruction was under way. From Anchorage to Kenai was a little better.

Now if you want to take the ferry over to Whittier, your trip is down to 122 miles, not counting the ferry ride.

Additional notes: I guess it can be driven in one day. Except by someone from Florida, like me, Who has to stop and see all the sights.

More thoughts: As the float plane flys, it's 170 miles.

A long freaking way, over 200 miles from Valdez to Anchorage, then Kenai is another 100 miles or so south of Anchorage.

Take the ferry from Valdez to Seward, then drive to Kenai - it's shorter time wise and it's more fun.

its about 450, I drove it in one day and loved it, especially the pass and really awesome falls as you descend down to Valdez.
