I have zero tolerance for any type of abuse including child abuse, spouse abuse, animal abuse, civil abuse. As far as domestic violence, I've seen women that beat their men because my mother was one of them. I use to feel very sorry for my father and he never hit her back. My mom had a quick temper and she was spoiled. If my daddy did not agree with her at all times, she would hit him in the head with the first thing that she got her hands on. Both of my parents are now deceased.

What's sad about domestic violence is the sexist divide. In order for a woman to be charged she really has to put some effort into it and leave a visible mark. In order for a man to be charged, all he has to do is shove or grab.
I knew a guy who had a bad reputation with a small community as an "abusive boyfriend". His offense? He RETURNED a shove after being shoved multiple times and screamed at incessantly. She didn't run into anything or develop a bruise, but he got the reputation.
Violence is apprehensible, but every person has a breaking point. Women love to test the boundaries of that breaking point. If you wouldn't scream at and shove a stranger continually for fear of a well-deserved @ss whooping, you shouldn't take that liberty with someone closer.

Right. If you verbally and physically abuse him beforehand, either immediately or for a lengthy period, or do things which tear at his life (like spend all of his money, have an affair and give him an STD, destroy his relationships with his family and friends, etc.), then don't think this ever justifies him in any way for violently reacting to it. But if he does these things to you, then remember you are always justified to violently react to it.
I hope you know sarcasm when you read it. I'm tired of the sexist attitude some women have concerning certain issues, and then try to justify them through the guise of "empowering themselves".

Just try not to perpetuate a double standard. Domestic Violence is wrong PERIOD. It does happen going the other way as well, you know.
And lady above me: I'm sorry, but there are plenty of circumstances in this world where a man would have plenty of right to defend himself against any aggressor. One should always balance what actions must be taken, and not go over what amount of force needed to achieve said goal. In short, ANY PERSON hitting ANY PERSON is wrong, unless it is necessary to protect one's self and/or loved ones.

Your friend was one of the lucky, who was not dealing with a truly unbalanced person {psycho} .
Each situation is different and should be dealt with accordingly.
Not all men will just walk away with their heads hung down because the court, a judge or police officer "wrote on a piece of paper" to stay away.
Under estimating people can be dangerous.
If we have learned anything from this current war in Iraq is "having an exit STRATEGY" should not be overlooked.

Is it ok for a woman to hit a man?
If it is not ok, should the woman suffer the same consequences as a man who hits a woman?
I know it's not exactly fair to answer a question with a question. However, the wording of your question suggests special treatment for women. Perhaps I drew the wrong conclusion, which is why I asked.

I do know my rights, and I also had him arrested, they slapped his wrist and set him loose and he came after me again, damn near killed me! But I called the cops again, and now he is doing hard time. If you are going to hang with abusive men, learn how to defend yourself.
