1) No, he tried, but ended up in a mental institution, the day he got out he met his current wife, that knew nothing about his past.
2) Suicide Blonde introduced him to the original character's concept of the Number 23 dominating everything in her life and they only way to escape it was through death.
3) They mailed postal peanut to find out who would show up to claim them, hoping to find the author to the Number 23, which only turned to be a psychiatrist that treated the original offender (Jim Carrey's original character) that he himself became obsessed with the number 23.
4) "Bad" is very subjective...most people that have seen it that were expecting more Jim Carrey sterotypical fare will tell you the entire move was one after another never ending bad scene.

For people that acutally watched the entire movie, most likely the bad scene is where Jim Carrey's charactor and his son's charactor go to dig up the grave of the original love interest and they don't find it...only later to find out that the Mom, portrayed by Virginia Madsen, dug it up and hid it to protect her family because even though she now realizes her husband has a sordid past and has killed, it capable of love through his love for her and their son.
