not sure, i know robitussin is used for TTC and safe during pregnancy but that is the only thing that the Dr would approve for when i had a cold and the Dr prefered that I use saline solution instead of any meds at all

Only plain Robitussin is okay during pregnancy - NOT the one that contains guaifensin. Look at your pamplet carefully.
One will pass on to the fetus (mucinex) and one will not. Guaifensein is much stronger acting, and the effects on a fetus are not quite known yet. Robitussin on the other hand contains Dextromethorphan - which is just the cough suppresent. There are other forms of Robitussin, but only one that my doctor says is okay to take.

Honestly, you can take either Robitussin or Mucinex since they both have the same generic name. The only difference is their brand names and the cost of each drug. If Robitussin is cheaper in your country, then maybe it is the reason why the doctor prescribed that over Mucinex.
Both drugs should be used cautiously when pregnant. And this drug has the following adverse effects: headache, dizziness, rash, urticaria, nausea, vomiting and GI discomfort. In other words, it may make your pregnancy troublesome.
So if you can manage to avoid taking any drug while pregnant, so much the better. Some drugs may have effects on your child since he/she absorbs and feeds on everything you take.
If you have the flu, just increased your intake of water and take vitamin C supplements everyday to strengthen your immune system.
Good luck!

there may be on eor two differnt types of medicine in it, or maybe theres a little more in mucinex than in robitussin. I would jusdt trust the doc.....they know that better than we do, if your realyl curious call and ask, no question is dumb for docs....nothing they havent been asked before. :)
I do know that Zycam is fine to take. It will boost your immune system, and help you get over your cold and stuff 3 times faster...i took than while pregnant.

Are they the same dosage? Isn't mucinex time-released? Maybe that makes a difference. It is ok to take regular Tylenol during pregnancy, but you shouldn't take Extra-strength Tylenol because the dosage is higher.

Not all Robitussin has the Guaifenesin. Perhaps that's not the particular kind he meant you to have. Or perhaps it is another ingredient or the amount of Guaifenesin involved.
