almost a week ago i got sick with a really bad sore throat (i went to the doc and i didnt have strep) a few days ago i started getting a stuffy nose and mucus buildup in my throat. today i woke up and my left ear hurts really bad. the doctor checked my ears the day i went (which was 2 days ago) and said they were fine. any ideas on how to help my ear without going back to the doc?

j mo is incorrect....benadryl will make it worst by removing fluids making mucous thicker. Lady right on.... Here are some other thoughts....L ear pain one of two things: 1st Otitis Media or Externa (ear infection) can happen as secondary infection.

2nd referred pain from either sinus or throat. remember their is a tube that connects ear to thoat. Agree with decongestants also try mucolytics (muconex or guianefessin). Because of dumb people (meth labs) it is harder to get phenyledprine (but it works better....give up your ID and get it)

Either way these infections? go away without antibiotics although if you starting having a fever > 101 f. Bite the bullet and see a doc. hope this helps

ps I am a horrible speller so please forgive.

Try some Advil and take some yellow Triaminic. The yellow Triaminic has a decongestant which will open your sinus cavity up and an expectorant to thin the fluid so it will not back up in your sinus and behind your eardrum which is probably causing you the pain.
Good Luck!
Don't take Benadryl---it will back the fluid up & make thinks worse on your ear!

iI use a bean bag type thing filled with herbs(from the mall) that I can heat up in the micro. Stick it - or a plain old heating pad - on your ear. Also - if you feel clogged - take an Benadryl or any type of decongestant to clear u up. Good luck. Gets some rest too!

You may now have an otitis media, but that is for the doctor to diagnose. You better go back and have the doctor check it out again for you. Pain is not normal.
