What a great question! I love chiropractic and have been under regular care (1 time per week) for 3 years now. Chiropractic focuses on your spinal nerves. A chiropractor treats a condition called a vertebral subluxation. A Vertebral Subluxation, or subluxation is then 2 bones in your spine get knocked out of alignment. When this happens it pinches the nerve and the disc creating pressure in that area of your spine. The pressure on the nerves can cause nerve communication throughout your body to be interrupted. When the communication from the body to the brain is interrupted it can cause all kinds of problems in your body. One example would be that if the nerve that controls your heart is being interrupted you could have high blood pressure, low blood pressure, erratic heart beat, heart disease, etc. The list goes on and on. Anything can be a sign that you have nerve interference, but nothing has to be. In other words you could have a subluxation for years to decades before you even have any pain or symptoms associated with it. Meanwhile the nerve communication continues to get worse, the spinal disc starts to thin and wear away from the pressure. This is called spinal decay or spinal degeneration. Only a chiropractor can tell you if you have subluxations or decay, after a thorough exam, and a set of x-rays.
The benefits of chiropractic are are numerous and amazing. When you nervous system is functioning properly without any nerve interferrace, your body has the chance to heal. Your body can heal from almost anything (within certain limits) if it is given the opportunity. Pain elimination is one major benefit, an immune system that can kick almost anything out of your body and a stronger healthier spine. I truely believe that Chiropractic a a piece of a healthy lifestyle. It is not the only thing you need to be healthy (diet, exercise, water, etc.) but it is certainly one of the biggest. A healthy functioning nervous system is a great start to a healthy lifestyle.
If you need to find a chiropractoc, just let me know, I can probably help you find someone that is reputable in your area.
Good luck and once again, what a great question!

Hi Bonbon. I am a retired Chiropractor.
Chiropractic is the art and science of diagnosing and treating human ailments without the use of prescription drugs or incisive surgery.
Chiropractic focuses on diagnosing and treating the cause of health problems, rather than merely blocking signs and symptoms with drugs or surgery.
Chiropractic is the largest drug-less healing system in the U.S. and it is the safest form of health-care available.
A core focus of Chiropractic is the nervous system and the spine that protects the nervous system. The nervous system monitors and controls all the cells, organs and systems of the body - it is the master control system. Spinal dysfunction can interfere with the nervous system's ability to do its job of maintaining health. Consequently, Chiropractic spinal adjustments to normalize the function of the spine and the nervous system it encases are a core component of Chiropractic care.
Chiropractors also focus on other core components of health, such as diet/nutrition, exercise and stress management.
Hope you find this helpful. Best wishes.

I have been using Chiropractic care for eighteen years now.
Basically, it keeps your nervous system in order by ensuring that the spine is aligned correctly and not impinging on the nerves that feed our organs. Back pain stems from the nerve being pressed on.
The main term used in Chiropractic is sublaxations. This is what I have described above.
I go every six weeks and it has made a HUGE difference to my overall health and wellbeing. Put it this way, I am rarely in a Doctors office.
As I see it, Chiropractic is preventative medicine. It helps keep our body in balance so it can remain in peak condition.
I could go on and on. Lets just say, from me it gets a big thumbs up.

We love our Chiro! I have had several back injuries, that until about 2-1/2 years ago, he was able to relieve the 'pressure' and I didn't have to take a bunch of pain killers.
He had to give up on me after the last xray (2-1/2 years ago) he took of my messed up back, because he couldn't help me anymore. HE sent me to the Orthopedic.
My husband still goes to him.
I have to go to Orthopedic Surgeon, who is most excellent-not knife happy!!!!
A Chiro can realign the spine, pelvis, neck and other jointed parts so that they work in sync and the patient doesn't have to rely on strong pain meds just to walk from one room to the other. Some feel a slight discomfort for an hour or so after an intense reajustment, depending on how far off their body was out of line. They are also great for people who are diagnosed with spine curvature (can't remember name).
The results of such care depend on the patient, whether or not they heed his instructions, how far off the spine was as compared to the rest of the body. The often can see the 'off' by looking at the feet while the patient is lieing down on the table-they calculate how far the back or pelvis is off by which foot is longer then the other, how far you can bend over w/out pain! I say three cheers for a good Chiro!
**NOTICE: A proper, really good Chiro will not attempt to adjust you until he has taken xrays of the affected areas!!

back. chiropractic is actually a commonly used word. A chiropractor is some one who fixes your back by working out the tight muscles and other things. My mom goes to one for her back and I know many others who do too. If you go to one and have back problems they help fix them. Help the pain.

A chiropractor makes sure that your spine is aligned correctly, which gets rid of things like slipped disks and pinched nerves. a chiropractor can do really great things by fixing pinched nerves becuase sometimes pinched nerves can really mess you up becuase your nerve signals don't get all the way to your organs. my mother used to get horrible migranes all the time but after she started seeing a chiropractor she pretty much stopped getting them. my sister had acid reflux disease and had to take medicine to control it but after she saw the chiropractor twice she no longer had to take anything for it. Going regularly is the best way to see results because your spine starts to stay aligned but even just the occasional visit makes you feel better.
