Creating a Portfolio
Creating a portfolio on Yahoo! Finance is fast, easy, and free. You can create and maintain as many portfolios as you like with a single Yahoo! ID. If you don't yet have a Yahoo! ID, you need to register for one before you can create a portfolio (registration is free and also allows you to take advantage of the many other products and services on the Yahoo! network including email, chat, games, and more). Yahoo! currently offers several different ways to track your portfolio (select a link to learn more):
* Watchlist Portfolio: Best for keeping a simple list of stocks, mutual funds, indices, and other securities to follow.
* Transaction Portfolio: Best for meticulous record keepers wanting detailed summaries of account activity both past and present.
* Current Holdings Portfolio: Best for tracking the number of shares and price paid for stocks, mutual funds, and other securities you currently hold.
To create a new portfolio, simply log in (or sign up for a Yahoo! ID if you don't already have one) and click the "My Portfolios" tab at the top of most Yahoo! Finance pages. Then click the "Create Portfolio" link. You are presented with the different portfolio options. Simply click the link for the type of portfolio that best suits your needs and follow the steps to create your portfolio.

Editing a Basic Portfolio
* Editing Portfolio Information: Edit information in your portfolio (add and remove symbols, update shares information, etc.) by selecting the portfolio name from the main Yahoo! Finance page.
On the next screen, click the "Edit" link next to the name of the portfolio. This brings up the Edit screen and you can proceed with your changes.
To change the number of shares you own, basis for the issue, or limit information, push the "Enter More Info" button at the bottom of the page under Step 4.
Note: If you add additional information under Step 4, you might need to also edit one of your views so that the view template includes columns for the newly added data (see the section on views).
* Multiple Tickers: To make multiple entries of the same stock ticker for the purposes of different cost basis, different purchase dates, or dividend distributions, select "Edit" next to the portfolio name. Enter the ticker symbol at Step 2 (Ticker Symbols) as many times as necessary to correspond with the number of times you wish it to appear. Select the "Enter More Info" button at the bottom of the Edit page to enter the different cost basis (purchase price) and share information.
* Delete Ticker: To delete tickers from your portfolio, log on to Yahoo! Finance and select "Edit" next to the name of the portfolio in which the ticker appears. Highlight and delete or backspace over the ticker symbol at Step 2 (Ticker Symbols).
* Delete Portfolio: First, select the portfolio name from the main Yahoo! Finance page. On the next screen, click the "Edit" link next to the name of the portfolio to open the Edit screen. Click the "Delete This Portfolio" link at the top of the page.
* $$CASH: To make cash entries into your portfolio, select the portfolio name from the main Yahoo! Finance page. On the next screen, click the "Edit" link next to the name of the portfolio to open the Edit screen. Enter "$$cash" in the window under Step 2 (Ticker Symbols) with your other ticker symbols. Next, click the "Enter More Info" button at the bottom of the page under Step 4 (Advanced Features). When the page displaying Step 5 (Enter or edit the details you'd like to track) opens, locate the $$CASH line item and enter the amount of cash in the shares column. Now your cash amount is added to the value of your portfolio for the performance view.

Transaction Portfolio Overview
Introduction
Transaction portfolios allow you to track your investments, cash, sales, and more. To track your portfolio, you need to record detailed information about the various transactions taking place in your account.
Note that if your objective to maintain a simple stock watchlist, we recommend you use the Standard Portfolio tool, which is better suited for this purpose.
To use portfolios, you first need to sign in to Yahoo! Finance or set up a free account, if you don't have one. When you are signed in, a link to your portfolio information appears on the Yahoo! Finance home page.
Creating a Transaction Portfolio:
1. Sign in with your Yahoo! ID, go to Yahoo! Finance, and click the "create" link in the Portfolios section of the personalization bar at the top of the page.
2. Select the "Track your Transaction History" link from the page displaying the four different options.
3. Enter a portfolio name and select a currency for the portfolio. The default setting is U.S. dollar. There are also several optional settings available to you from this page.
The Consolidate Multiple Lots is a useful feature that allows you to display aggregate positions with multiple lots. For instance, if you input multiple buy transactions for company ABC, rather than displaying multiple lots on the Positions page, you see a single summary position (price paid information, if registered would be averaged out). If you prefer to view lots in the same security independently, leave this option unchecked.
4. Input transaction information via the Create Transaction form. Use the "Save and Create Another" option to continue entering multiple transactions in sequence. Note that you can always enter additional transactions at a later time. Learn more about creating transactions.
5. View your portfolio by clicking the "Positions" tab (to see the open positions and total portfolio value) or by clicking the "Transactions" tab to view the transaction history. Learn more about viewing the transaction data.

Penny stocks are loosely categorized companies with share prices of below $5 and with market caps of under $200 million. They are sometimes referred to as "the slot machines of the equity market" because of the money involved. There may be a good place for penny stocks in the portfolio of an experienced, advanced investor, however, if you follow this guide you will learn the most efficient strategies https://tr.im/4ed13
