I have a gas dryer I'm trying to hook up. I have bought a gas line kit from the hardware store that has all the parts I need (fitings for each end, steel gas line, teflon for gas, etc.).

My question is, do I need to tape the flared ends too? or just the regular male ends?

Flare fittings make a mechanical seal with machined surfaces. They should not need tape or compound on them. Only the regular threaded piping needs dope to help seal them. I have seen dope on the threads of flare fittings because it makes people feel more comfotable. Just make sure you don't get it on the faces as it may cause a leak.

Are you talking about the gas line or vent hose. Modern style flexible gas lines have a flare fitting requiring no thread sealant but if your threading iron nipples you need some kind of pipe dope. afterward check for leaks with a dish soap/water solution. Bubbles would indicate a leak. Be advised that this type of work is not for novices and is best left to professionals. Vent lines can be sealed with duct tape.

Your kit was supplied with Yellow Teflon tape. Tape the threads on the "male" ends. Using a pipe wrench, pliers, or channel locks, screw the fitting together assuring they are tight. Do the same with the "male" pipe extending from the dryer, Attach the fitting there also, For the "female" ends attaching to the gas line itself, it is not nessessary to tape those ends since they are tapepered, Tighten all connections. You can use a mixture of soap and water to detect leaks.

You shouldnt be using tape with gas lines. Go to the store and get the correct pipe dope ( its a paste like sealer) for the job. Its at home improvement stores also.

Maybe you should call the helpline or get a professional for the company or brand you are setting up? I would hate for you to not connect/tape something and there is a gas leak.
