My lawn has many holes about 1 to 2 inches in diameter. New ones appear over night. We see these toads' heads and shoulders sticking out. When they see us they back up rapidly.
There is no dirt around the hole.
What makes the holes? How to prevent them? Any knowledge & advice appreciated.
David.

Many toads do burrow, themselves, especially during dry weather, in an attempt to keep moist. Are you having particularly dry weather? (We are, here in DE).
