She might not be ready for it yet. If she seems satisfied by the nursing, then it's not necessary at this time. If she's acting hungry in addition to her normal nursing time, then she might be ready for it. Be patient and try again another time. If it doesn't work for her the next time, wait a little longer. If she doesn't eat cereal until she's six or seven months old, it's not the end of the world! Breastmilk or formula is a baby's primary source of nutrition until they're a year old. Solids are just for practice to get them used to eating them.
Also, mix the cereal with some breastmilk - she's already used to the taste of that, so it won't be so foreign to her. You don't want to mix it with juice because that's adding empty calories that she doesn't need.

My son didn't want any cereal till he was 6 months old. Also, sucking is very different muscle movement than eating food. The baby's tongue makes forward movements like sucking a nipple even tho it's cereal. That tends to push the food out of the mouth. Just keep trying it. I have heard that it takes at least a dozen trys to get a baby to eat a new food if it is a different texture. I never mixed juice as I wanted my baby to enjoy other tastes than just sweet flavors, which the juice gives to the cereal. I felt that was setting up the baby for a "sweet tooth" at a very early age. Good luck.

My youngest daughter is almost 16 months and I am still breastfeeding her. She did not want nothing to do with cereal or baby food. Finally at 11 months she started eating, but not baby food. She likes the Gerber Graduate meals and pretty much anything that we are eating as long as she can't choke on it. My oldest is 7 years old and she loved the cereal and she was 5 months. I would stop trying to feed her the cereal and wait a few weeks and try again. She might eat a few bites and she might not. She will eat it when she is ready. Do not force her to eat anything when she doesn't want to, it will only make matters worse. Good luck to you!

mix it in with her breast milk. It sounds like you have already tried it without positive results, then I would suggest trying it again but this time less cereal and more milk till she gets adjusted to the taste and texture. then after a while adjust the ration of milk to cereal accordingly. If that doesnt work then a little bit of apple juice doesnt hurt either and at the same tiem you are killing two birds with one stone by providing the vitamins and nutrients from the juice/milk/cereal. Good Luck!

Add applesauce or try the rice cereal with fruit. (i.e. bananas, etc.) I know breastfed babies don't always like plain rice cereal, soon enough she will be eating real baby food so to save her the anguish of tasting that blah cereal let her have a go at the flavored kinds. Be sure to watch out for allergic reactions for about a week or so.

I mixed the rice cereal with expressed breast milk and I made it pretty thin. I gradually decreased the amount of breast milk, but I still always made the rice cereal with that because one of my baby books said that rice cereal has a flavor reminiscent of cardboard (yum!).

Are you making it with breastmilk? If not try that. Also try to make the cereal very thin. The first time I feed cereal it to my kids it is so thin that they have to kind of slurp it off the spoon. Other than that, nothing to do but wait and keep trying every week or two. She will do things on her own schedule!

The texture and taste is new to her, so it is going to take her a while to get used to it. Mix it with breast milk instead of water and make sure it is very thin- you should be able to pour it into her mouth. Be persistant. She will get used to it, but you have to keep trying. Don't expect her to like it the first time if it is her first solid food.

If your baby is still not five months old, she just may not be ready yet. Try waiting another month, and then trying again. Most babies can hold out until 6 months. Good luck!

I had the same problem with my children... Are you mixing your breast milk in with the rice cereal? That may help.
Do not force her, she'll take to it soon enough! Good luck!
