I think it probably depends on what sort of hurt is was. The chances are that in a long friendship they will hurt you at some point, so if that's the case then maybe you should consider talking to them and putting your differences behind you - maybe you hurt them as well. If they hurt you on a long-term basis and you don't think that will ever change, then just ignore them or tell them that you don't want to be friends any more.

No, there's nothing wrong with ignoring an old friend that hurts you. Is the hurt in the past or the present? If in the past, why not learn whatever lesson was there for you, forgive, and move on. Why drag it as baggage, when you can let it go and go forth with love?

Some pain is helpful while other pain is keeping you down.
If your friend is hurting you by making you a better person I would accept the pain. This would be if they kept you from stuff like drugs, alcohol, gambling, sex addictions, tobacco, over eating, or any other self destructing behaviors you may be inflicting on yourself.

If this person is hurting you by being self destructive to themselves (drugs, alcohol, gambling, etc-etc-etc) ... then you can be a hero and try to help them out. You will need to separate and ignore if your efforts are sinking you too. Just like we hear when flying, "Please place the oxygen mask on yourself before your child" ... meaning, you can't save them unless you're taken care of first.

Leave the past in the past and look forward to the future. Let bygones be bygones. People change with age.
