I spend £10ish on fish a fair bit, i like to buy the bigger ones.
My breeding pair of convicts cost my £18.50 but that was for 2 and they have fry already and iv only had them for about 2 weeks so i say it was money well spent!
Some fish are so beautiful that they are just lovely to look at in tank and that makes them well worth the money!

Well ask yourself these questions "do you love the fish? do you have the extra cash to spend on such an item? Will spending that money put you in any sort of financial ruin? My guess is it wont be detrimental to your wallet and if it makes you happy and you feel you can provide the animal with a higher quality of life than no money spent is to much. People spend thousands of dollars on fish and supplies to keep thier fish and if it is something you love to do then why not. I personally have spent a lot of money on fish over the years and when i come home and see my fish corals and inverts it is calming and gives me a sense of accomplishment. So where someone else may look at me like i am crazy for spending so much on fish i dont care cause i love keeping them and no one elses opinion bothers me but my own. If you really want to know the most i spent was around 200 USD on one coral. hope this helps and good luck with the fish.

The most i've ever spent on one fish which is tropical freshwater..and that is, £20 for a juvenile Leporinus Fasciatus which was only about 3". The man said that only small ones have been imported. How much do you think a one of 8" big would cost.?

The most expensive tropical fish you can buy will be one of the rare colour variants of the golden arowana. A standard one will cost you about £2000 and will have an identity chip implanted in it and a certificate of authentication. The most expensive one I have seen is a rare platinum colour variant on sale for £120,000.
A champion Japanese Kohaku Koi Carp is likely to be more valuable however, If you can persuade a breeder to part with their champion fish that is. These deals are normally done in secrecy, however rumours of one selling recently for £200,000 have not been denied.

Some short lived fish go for 25 c. Others go for hundreds! I got a fish that was supposed to live six years for 50 dollars once, it was just to cute to pass up! It died the next day. So always do reasearch to find how much a fish should go for. And how to tell if it's gonna die in a day or not...

5 dollars. But there are really expensive fish. i saw a fish for 20 dollars. but what I've noticed is that cheaper fish are smaller but when you read about them they could get really big. So I would suggest buying a smaller fish and letting it grow for a several months. You'll get an expensive fish for less if you wait several months.
