In this world you can't live alone, everyone is depending on some one for something, that some one may be your soul mate..

I think the idea of a "soul mate" is antiquated (or old fashioned). It's an old myth that can honestly ruin people's love lives. Some will stay with people they really shouldn't because of this. I think we should use the word "kindred spirit". This is someone who you get along with. They are your companion. They share goals etc....However, once you no longer are in this "kindred" state you really should move on. The idea in soul mates can make something too permanent, and too intense (unnecessarily). Also, the believers in soul mates tend to overlook a lot of great potential companions. Life is short. Find someone you enjoy and live.

Several so I am let to understand. You are supposed to immediately recognize each other and have crossed paths many times in the past, searching for each other.

There are supposed to be a designated soul mate for each distinct facet of your character. So if you are consistently changing, evolving and learning you will create more soul mates. However, there is also meant to be one 'master' soul mate who is the most perfect fit for you which you can only meet at the time where you both 'fit'.

My friend is really into this but as she is onto her 3rd husband (soul mate) perhaps my opinion is more valid: No. No such thing as soul mates.

According to the Kabbalah (the Jewish book of mysticism) yes. (paraphrasing) It says at the beginning of time, God created all the souls that would ever exist. He severed them in half (one female and one male). The male will look for his "basherta" and the woman her "bashert." They will know they are each other's soul mate, because they will feel complete. =)

I personally don't think so. The beauty of the human heart is that its boundless in its capacity to love. There couldn't be just one person for that.
Kindred souls I believe in. Soul mate? No. But that's just me.
