cot(pi/4) = 1
sin(pi/6) = 1/2

3*(1^2) + 8*(1/2)^2 =
3 + 8/4 =
3 + 2 =
5

cot pi/4 = 1 because a right triangle having the acute angle pi/4 is isosceles, thus, cos pi/4 = sin pi/4 = 1.

sin pi/6 = 1/2 because you can split an equilateral triangle into two right triangles having a side which is half the hypotenuse opposite the angle pi/6

Now, 3 cot^2 pi/4 + 8 sin^2 pi/6 =
= 3 * 1^2 + 8*(1/2)^2 = 3*1 + 8*1/4 = 3 + 2 = 5

cot (pi/4) = 1
3 cot^2 (pi/4) = 3*1^2 = 3
sin (pi/6) = 1/2
8 sin^2 (pi/6) = 8*(1/2)^2 = 8/4 = 2
3 cot^2 (pi/4) + 8 sin^2 (pi/6) = 5

2007-08-08 11:33:55 · answer #3 · answered by Andrew D 1 · 0 0

3 cot^2 pi/4 + 8 sin^2 pi/6
= 3+8(1/2)^2
= 5
------------
Reason: cot pi/4 = 1, sin pi/6 = 1/2
