I think it's some weird effect of singing---
when the Beatles started, their songs sounded American.
It was months, then, (early 1964) before U.S. fans actually heard their Liverpool accents, on a special WLS radio interview show (this was before they came to NYC for the Ed Sullivan Show)---it was a SHOCK! We could hardly understand what they were saying when they spoke, though we loved how cool their accents were. I would have never believed that they were the same singers of those songs.

Not at all true, but let's just say that for the ones that are sung in American accents that it's simply an industry standard.

A few are like Lostprophets but id say most aren't. Muse, Coldplay, Oasis, Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs etc don't n they are top notch bands... It works both ways to some extent, the Killers don't sing in American n they are American... Infact til I heard em speak id of said they were British.

Heya,
Its a frickin pain innit? it makes us look like losers,
well lily allen has a cockney technique which great, but mainly bcuz it depends on the technique we use, sometimes amercian songwriters write the songs & the u.k singers by them lol!! and tht kinda givs them a amercian voice
i hope this helps x Also There accent kinda disolves away when u get used to it, & it becomes more understanble & more english xD

a lot of people seem to lapse into an American accent when they sing. i think it's because most songs are American and so you unconsciously pick up the accent when you sing along to them.

No its not,

Ever heard of the Arctic Monkeys?

Lily Allen?

Listen to their accents!

A lot of singers lose any sort of accent when they sing but it doesn't necessarily make them sound American
