Why only socialize medicine? I'd like universal automobile (drivers) insurance too. I'd like universal grocery coverage. What would you like to see be universally covered by the government besides healthcare? :)

SuperOil, universal means everyone. When they change the healthcare system, they aren't just monkeying around with the poor people's healthcare, they are monkeying around with everyone's healthcare. You may like your coverage, and your doctor, and the service how you have it now...but the government will have better ideas when they take it over, and you better adjust ;)

Why not? Makes about as much sense as anything else the government has been doing lately!

The problem is that people don't know the difference between a right and a privilage anymore! Rights are universal, privilages are special... the best way to talk about having a "RIGHT" to universal healthcare is to ask that person if somebody were to walk over the border to the USA from, say Mexico, and have the "RIGHT" to free medical care? If they say no, then it's obviously not a RIGHT! If a person comes to the USA from Mexico and wants to be a Catholic is it their RIGHT? YES! See, medical care is a privilage to those who have paid into the system... NOT A RIGHT!

Rights are granted by you're very existance, given to us by GOD if you will! They can be violated, but cannot be granted or taken away by governments because it isn't in their sphere of authority...

Regardless of whether it's a Right or a Privilage, universal health care still a bad idea...

I hear you..I have been asking the same question..how about including homeowners and life insurance to the universal coverage..people complain about the cost of health insurance but say nothing about auto, homeowners, and life insurance..I pay for mine because I need it..not because I enjoy paying for it

I see where you are going with this and I agree.

Government control is indeed a slippery slope.

But as long as its "for the poor", right?
