If you're good enough to represent your country, then age doesn't matter. A French figure skater, Alain Giletti, was only 12 when he represented France at the 1952 games.

It depends on what sport you plan to do. At 17 you can definetly go to the olympics. According the rule you need to turn 16 like on a certain month before the olympics. At 17 figure skating is good because many 16 years old won it (Sarah Hughes) and even 15 with Tara Lapinski however she got a hip injury being the first woman to land triple loop triple loop (the 16 year old rule thing didn't exist then.) 26 is the age considered retiring because they naturally lose their jumps by then. However, other sports you need more trainning. Gymnastics the age is like 15 to 35. Runners I'm not sure but most of them are in there 20's but there was one woman in her 30's. It really just depends on what sport, how good you are (can you compete internationally and make it through sectionals, regionals, and then nationals?), and how much effort you put into your competitions. You can definetly make it to the olypics even though the hances are slim because they only pick a very limeted number out of thousands. Winning the olympics there is a chance. Most sports younger is better but some older knows better.

There are lots of 17 year olds in the Olympics, and even younger! Certain sports, like women's gymnastics, favor younger people. In fact women gymnasts are usually 'over the hill' by the time they're 18!

The answer is yes, but it really depends on the sport. A 17 year-old basketball player doesn't stand a chance, but the Olypmpics are filled with teenage swimmers, divers, skaters, and gymnasts.

If your good at your sport you could make it. It mostly depends about the sport your into. Take gymnastics for example you have to be pretty young to be in there for that think 17 would be your last year as a gymnast.

Yes, there have been many Olympic athletes even younger than that. Nadia Comenici (sp?) was 14 when she stomped *** for the golds that she won.

of course.
If you were a female olympic gymnast, your career would already be over or you would be very quickly nearing the end by that age.

research on world records (sports) and you'l see champions who are even younger that 17. it's the spirit to fight and not the age.
