I am 37 weeks and 4 days pregnant. My stomach gets really tight sometimes. How do i know if it's just the baby moving around or a contraction??

Usually the baby moves a foot or a fist.. and pushes. But the baby can't make your stomach tight. If you are not having pain you may be having Braxton Hicks contractions which is not biggie. When go into labor the contractions will hurt like cramps during your period...

You know that is a very good question when I was pregnant with my first babe, I was having contractions and didn't know it because it felt to me like he was putting his knees behind my belly button and pushing out. Chances are if you are having real contractions you WILL be able to tell the difference, but if your curious the way i was told is to feel your belly. You know where your uterus sits, if it is hard all over it is a contraction, if you can find soft squishy spots that you know is where your uterus sits it is not a contraction. (or it is but it is a braxton hicks) If these feelings are with lower tummy or back pain during the "squish" it is likley a contraction. If the feelings get to 5 min apart and last close to a min before they go away, it is time to call your doc! Good luck! and Congradulations!

This might sound silly but you'll know, believe me, you will know. The baby is not moving but killing you. The pain becomes rather intense, sometimes your water breaks which helps it along. Your stomach getting tight is not labor pain.

Babies usually dont have any activity during a contraction. And the baby's movement usually doesnt hurt, plus you'll feel it from the inside..a contraction you'll feel on the outside as well as the inside.
