Ok im 20yrs old. I have a sister who is married and pregnant. She is 4 months. (im excited for her) She is taking some prenatal vitamins and her hair is so long and beautiful and healthy etc. I told her that I wanted to take some of those pills and she said ok. She gave me 2wks worth and I took one this morning with breakfast. She warned me that those pills make her vomit and nausea. So my question is... if Im not prego, should it also make me nauseous or does it just make pregnant girls nauseous?

The reason why she is probably nauseated is because she is pregnant. I would be surprised if the vitamins make you nauseated.

Prenatal vitamins have higher concentrations of the vitamins and your body does not need it. It would be too much for you. The reason your sister's hair is beautiful is because she is pregnant. Pregnancy stops people from losing the hair that we all lose on a daily basis so it gives them a nice thick head of hair. A few months after her baby is born and the hormones leave her body the hair will fall out in clumps and she will have little short pieces of hair sticking up all over when her baby is about 9 months old because of the hair that is growing back.

It's not just the vitamins that make a pregnant woman's nails and hair stronger, thicker and shinier-it's the hormones, especially the estrogen that causes this. The hair stops shedding as much, so it appears healthier and thicker. About 2-4 months postpartum women will shed a bunch of this hair. This being said, I've been taking prenatal vitamins for years now and my nails grow faster and stronger-I haven't really noticed too much about the hair. They can make anyone nauseous if not taken with food. If you are losing your hair you should really ask your doctor about it-you could have a hormone problem! Good luck!

Well, first of all, the vitamin that was making your sister's hair long and strong was vitamin E. Which you could buy over the counter very cheaply, and much safer than borrowing your sister's prescription medication.

Also, pre-natal vitamins contain alot of things you don't need in such large doses, like folic acid and iron. Do not take pre-natal vitamins for your hair. Go to CVS and buy vitamin E and take the prescribed amount.

Nothing wrong with taking premnatal vitamins.. My hair and nails grew like crazy on them too! But be careful, prenatal vits have a TON of iron in them. That's what might make you nauseous or horribly constipated!

okay, for one, vitamins will only make your "more fertile" if you are vitamin deficient. also, prenatal vitamins have a lot of iron like others said, and that can make you feel ill, regardless of being pregnant. your best bet would be to take a regular multivitamin. you don't NEED all the stuff in prenatals, and they're more expensive than regular vitamins.

They aren't going to hurt you.. the only thing is the extra iron may make you sick or constipated. Try taking them before bed instead.. this helps some people. Besides, if you go to Wal-Mart or somewhere like that, right beside the prenatal vitamins, they sell vitamins specifically for the purpose you want.

Don't take prenatals to get strong healthy hair. Her hair is strong and healthy because she's pregnant - it has something to do with the hormones and all that jazz. Her hair will thin out after she has the baby, it happens to everyone. Read about it in one of her baby books :)

It's the iron content. Some people get nauseaus with regular vitamins, so you could. If you do, just take them before bed.

You can get your own prenatals over the counter now. My doc had me on them for quite awhile when I wasn't pregnant because I was anemic, so there is no harm in you taking them.

And they say that if the prenatals make you sick, you can take flintsone's chewables.

the prenatal vitamins have no effect on hair..your sisters hair isnt falling out because she has pregnancy hormones which stop hair from falling out. Not the vitamins. If you take them, it will be ok, but they are a super strong in vitamins for her and baby that's why they make you sick..And you'll be more proned to getting pregnant.

your sister might be taking in too much of a certain vitimin. and she may feel nauseous from morning sickness, I wouldn't worry about getting nauseous I'm pregnant and taking prenatial vitimins and I don't feel nauseous from them. I would like to say Don't have unprotected sex while taking these if you don't want to get pregnant because taking prenatal vitimins can UP your chances of getting pregnant. My friend was trying for a while then after 1 month of taking prenatal vitimins she became pregnant. So just to for warn ya.
