I think we need to reallocate the funds that we have. There is a lot of wasteful spending of tax dollars. But yes there are a lot of times where I think we send a lot of money out of the country that we could really use to help our own citizens.
There recently was a measure in MN to raise the gas tax which was defeated. MN has not raised its gas tax in over 10 years. In all that I read prior to the bill being defeated nothing was mentioned specifically about bridges - the biggest concern was the roads.
There is nothing to say that even if there was more money spent here in the US that the money would have gone to fixing bridges.
But overall yes we need to spend more on our own infrastructure and people rather than those in other countries.

We've had one bridge fall down (that we know of), and our infrastructure is widely thought to be the best and safest in the world. If the U.S. suffers an earthquake or gets hit by a hurricane or some other disaster, the death toll is usually quite low (Katrina excepted) while for other nations it's in the 1,000's.

I think we should be fixing our own country before we start fixing everyone else's country.
Our roads look in many areas like 3rd world standard.
I look at some old movies on TV and things looked much better 30 years ago or more.

We could have completely rebuilt every bridge in America with just the taxable money that the illegals have sent back to their country, boosting their economy.

We need to scream at congress. They spend our road funds on primarily pork projects (Alaska's bridge to nowhere for example) instead of shoring up needed infrastructure.

Just like when the cold war ended, people thought that reducing military spending would mean a ton of cash to use on junk here at home. Didn't happen then, won't happen now.
Peace dividends are a pipe dream.

yes ... i think that we just need to stop giving money to all foreign countries. so sorry . we will send more when we can. we then need to work oun getting our own poor and working poor stabilized. then we can go back to giving a little here and there. we can't afford a lot of charity any more.

I think the state governments need to quit diverting gasoline tax dollars to fund other projects and put the money where it was intended.

I think maybe our 400 billion dollar defense budget should be trimmed a bit.
