I guess that depends on what route you plan to take?

You could take I10 along the gulf coast, see the Katrina devastation. Go to the French Quarter in New Orleans. Drive through Houston as fast as possible. Stop in San Antonio and check out the River Walk and the Alamo. Next stop El Paso, no idea what is in El Paso. Drive on to Tucson through the Saguaro National Park - try to do that early in the AM or before sunset if possible - beautiful sight. I would stick with I10 up to Phoenix - now you have a decision to make....

Take I10 over to LA and go through the Joshua Tree Forest, into Hollywood, Malibu, Santa Barbara then drive the 101 up into San Francisco or go up to Sedona/Flagstaff then Grand Canyon then Las Vegas then get off the Interstate and drive through Death Valley - up to Lake Tahoe, down into San Francisco.

I would go the Sedona route. Sedona is one of the most beautiful places in the USA - just my opinion. Be aware it's all up hill from Phoenix to Sedona/Flagstaff - in a rental truck you will burn through a lot of gas in 100 miles.

North of SF, places of interest are Napa Valley - if you into wine that would be a must. No driving for 12 hours. The red wood forest which is up by Eureka. I'd suggest getting on Rt1 by SF and going up that way. Rt1 would include the Golden Gate bridge. Problem here is that you would need to make a side journey to Napa Valley - look at a map you will see what I mean.

Places of interest in Oregon are Crater Lake or I would recommend driving up 101 along the coast. The Oregon coast is beautiful, particularly up around Cannon Beach.

You will be close to Oregon in Seattle, so you can always come back.

Enjoy Seattle, it's one of my favorite cities - both of my kids were born there.

Spend it sluggish in Port Townsend, possibly additionally fort Worden (interior of reach) and/or fort Flagler (on Marrowstone Island). Take the Bainbridge Island Ferry from Seattle and stress 40 5 minutes, or the Kingston Ferry from Edmonds (truly shorter stress). the two-ferry decision via way of Mukilteo to Whidbey Island is exciting yet no longer reported with the aid of fact the 2nd ferry, from Keystone to Port Townsend is presently working with insufficient kit, ensuing in long wait circumstances.
