You might take a look at Bead & Button, Bead Style or Beadwork magazines. They are all full of projects. Bead & Button has a section towards the back which shows basic processes.
You might try a local craft store, such as Hobby Lobby or Michaels. They should have some "how to" books which would be helpful to you. They both also have classes that they offer which are relatively inexpensive. You could learn the basics there. Amazon.com has lots of books, too. Good luck!

Go to Joann's fabrics or Michael's or your local craft & hobby store & ask for FIMO clay, another good name is Sculpey... They are moldable polymer clays. You will most likely find some books in the same section. Get a small cheap toaster oven (from Walmart). Do not use the regular one as the clay cannot be used around food consumption or preperation areas (until after firing). Go to these websites too, for ideas. FIMO.com & Sculpey.com
The person who wrote all about the accessories you'll need is right on with her detailed list. You will need tools & string & wire & hooks...etc.
GOOD LUCK!!!
HAPPY BEADING!!!
Oh, this hobby is great for birthdays, Chritsmas & every other holiday... plus you can ask for books or more clays for your birthday. Parents & grandparents love to be able to buy something for you that they know you'll enjoy.

If you like to learn visually there is also a television show that is all about making jewelry. I enjoy it because they show you the step-by-step techniques. Check your local listings for the show called "Beads, Baubles and Jewels". It is a half-hour show. Here in Montreal, Quebec, Canada it is on Sundays at 1:30 Eastern on channel 24 (I think). You will need to check your local area for showtimes.
Hope this helps,
Jennifer

Firemountaingems.com has a great tutorial on the basics of jewelry making. It is an online instructional booklet that may be printed and then stapled along one side to use as a permanent hard copy resource. There is a great deal of good information in it!

Look up "Preston Reuther" on Google or Dogpile. I can't recall the address for his site, namely since I generally just click on a link in his newsletter to get there. It's good, though. Have a look. There are free video tutorials available, as well as a course to purchase.
