1. Went in looking for 4 bags of weed and feed, the pallet had 3 bags remaining and the guy just before me bought two of them (will be restocked in two weeks).

2. Went in looking for 7 sheets of 3/8" plywood, the pallet on the floor had 3 sheets left (the damaged ones everyone picked through), and non up above on the rack.

3. Went in looking for 5/gallon pails of deck stain for $115.00/each. They didn't have the 5/gallon pails and tried to sell me (5) 1/gallon pails for $28.00.

4. I waited 25 minutes for a "flooring" specialist before I tore the customer service desk a new one for someone never showing up in the first place.

5. I love the fact that when you need help, there are only 5 semi-trained employees hiding somewhere in the store, and when you do find one, their on the phone with someone like Ty Pennington.

Humor me and convince me these are not isolated incidents. Maybe the store by my house employs the bottom 10th the HomeDepot Univeristy graduating class.

I have both HD and Lowes near me, I go to Lowes. Lick my Kitty, are you sure you've been greeted at HD, I get greeted at Lowes but never was someone there to greet me at a HD. Simply put, Lowes is MUCH more organized and managed.
In the past three years we've done thousands of dollars worth of upgrades to our home. A new kitchen and built a garage, all done through Lowes. Good Question. ;-)

I have heard every complaint listed here face to face with the customer. I am a ex-home depot associate with 5 years on the floor working just about every department in the store. In our store customer service was beat into our heads and was grounds for dismissal. If we ever pointed to the direction of what product you were looking for we could get fired. I left due to alot of things and one was hd would not hire anyone and many many times I was left on the floor alone in my department up to 6 hours. As for as something missing on the shelf but is in the overhead the associate sole duty is to bring it down for you, yes this may take time depending on what the product is due to heavy equipment needed to down stock the product. All of the complaints I have read here a department head, assistant manager or store manager would have taking care of it. If you receive crappy customer service ask for the manager on duty if that doesnt work write a letter to that store manager and cc it to home depot headquarters in Atlanta, Ga you can get the address at the store and or the customer service phone number and I assure you the ball will start rolling. Dont curse or scream and jump up and down just cool your jets and you will get alot more done. As far as the counter top not fitting and the sink not fitting I must ask who did the measurement and was the counter top and sink special order? the general rule is if you the customer measured it and it doesnt fit you bought it. I have been involved with this problem many times. Lowes or Home Depot who is the best and it depends......each have a policy that if you find the same product, same part number, same model number both stores will meet the lowest price plus give you a additional 10 % off unless it has changed since I left. If you want to blame anyone blame the ex ceo bob nordelli of home depot he tore home depot down to the roots. Well hes gone and so am I. Im not taking up for home depot but when the truth comes out thats what you have. I hope this helps.....

Yes, I do hate them, and won't go to them. I haven't been to Lowe's in the last 4 months, but the last time I was there, I don't think they had any. I'm not fond of Home Depot, either, but not because of their checkouts. I would simply go to a different one. The grocery store I go to has a few self service lanes, too, but I figure that's alright for the people that like them.

Home Depot is really a secret social experiment run by the government to see just how much frustration the American consumer can take.

So far, it appears we can stand quite a large amount of bad service or no service at all, since we still tend to go there and experience the slow, crappy service we already knew was going to happen.

I can't predict the eventual outcome of this outrageously bad enterprise, but I do think it will crater at some point.

Home Depot is now a LAST RESORT for us.

Everyone, please stop going to Home Depot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bought a new counter top and stainless steel sink
Delivery promised in two days. Took two weeks.
Put the counter top in (thank goodness did not glue) waited two more weeks for the sink
Sink would not fit.
They said it was not their fault and would not take back either one.
Went to Lowes and bought new both .
That was last visit to Home Depot.

I spent over an hour with the flooring specialist. She recommended bamboo at $1.99 a sq foot. The space is 486 sq feet. When they call with the estimate they say the bamboo will cost $1973 .00 and the labor would be $3575.00. WTF? I got an estimate for labor from a private contractor of $1800.00. I know of 2 friends that switched to Lowes.

I am fascinated to see that peoples experiences with HD mirror that with mine here in ST Thomas, Virgin Islands...so it's not just local, it's company wide........and the poster about zombies......boy you got that right!!!!

I had a contract to re-deck a local marina. Budget was about 100,000 for lumber. Went to the HD , special orders desk, contractor help desk, couldn't get anyone interested......too much work." we'd have to special order it".

Bought $113,000 worth of lumber from the local lumber yard where I should have gone in the first place.

well ive been to lowes and homedepot and home depot always greets me when going inside the store i usually just look for things myself but if i go around the store twice then i ask for help and yeah they can be kinda "BUSY" with a customer but i tell them that i need their help nad they will help yoiu just need to let them know that your the "customer" .
LOWES has better quality then home depot thats why home depot is less expensive than LOWESand LOWES gives you 5% price difference if the item is cheaper than lowes.thats kool. so yeha i go to HD just b.c they are closer but if i go towards lowes id rather go there
