I had the same problem and nothing worked. I asked a friend that runs a maid service and she suggested Mr Clean Magic Eraser. It really did work like magic. Here's a link but most grocers carry it.

It depends on the tub material. If the tub is enamelled iron, I would fill it partially with hot water and add bleach once there's 2 or so inches in there. I would let it sit for at least an hour, drain, and use a mild scrub such as baking soda, Bon Ami, or Barkeeper's Friend. Any small or light bits could be taken care of with a bleach pen, but I'd make sure that it won't hurt the enamel by testing it on a spot that isn't noticeable.

Fiberglass and plastic discolour easily with bleach, so if you use it, make sure it's well dilute. They also scratch easily. Baking soda or Bon Ami shouldn't scratch it.

Chlorox bleach. STart with a mild mixture of 1/4 Chlorox to water. Let it sit in the bottom (1/4 inch deep is all you need) and then drain and rinse.

I'm sorry,
but the best way to get the really dirty and soap scum off a tub is the old fashion Ajax and allot of elbow grease.

Vin P is right, the Magic Eraser is the best at getting stains off most anything. It is one of the BEST inventions ever! Wal-Mart has it in their brand also, and it works just as well.
