Exodus 22:16 -- 22:18
When a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged to be married, and lies with her, he shall give the bride-price for her and make her his wife. But if her father refuses to give her to him, he shall pay an amount equal to the bride-price for virgins.

Ya'all must be so proud of your book of morals.

I'm still not sure what's the point here? The Bible is a book of morals? Really? I didn't know that.

read your bible again....and know that what was right in the Old Testament...such as the Golden Rule.."An eye for an eye"? all of that was broken and corrected when Jesus said, when one slaps you on the right cheek, offer the left...which that is something so many of us have a hard time doing.... My book of morals are still in tact.... r u trying to justify it is alright then to sleep with virgins as long as you pay the bride-price??

find another book to justify that cause you won't find in the bible....

Wrong section by the way......... It was the time period. People sold women as brides at the market for Christ sake!! have you ever heard of anything call the New Testament??? Jesus came along and basically taught everyone new stuff anyways.

Oh and at least the father was repaid .... nowadays the man would leave the woman (who was prob pregnant) flip the father the finger, claim he could do whatever the hell he wanted, and dissapear off the face of the earth.

This question would be better placed in the "religion and spirituality" section.

The Bible is full of controversial stuff, isn't it? So is politics. Heaven forbid we try and mix the two.

Why the daily attack on religion? I'm a deist myself.. so I can understand trying to rationalize the Bible.. I've been there... that doesn't mean you have to set out to destroy it for everyone else. Every person has to find their own path to spirituality.. and trying to force them to find/forget religion only pushes them in the opposite direction.. I mean really.. what do you think when people (on occasion) try to force a religion on you?

If it's right for them.. it's right for them.. who are we to judge? Just work on finding your own peace.. that's a hard enough task in life.

That was the custom back then and it was for PUNISHMENT and CONSEQUENCES of doing that act- not an order to go forth and have sex with virgins by God.

I am not proud of the Bible; pride is excessive and I didn't write it.

you had to pay for your wife at that time, if you ruined her you had to pay the price, don't take things out of context.
