All of the drains where I live are clogged but my bathroom is the worst. Now the water takes hours to drain from the tub. I have tried liquid drano and the industrial strength powder.

Any suggestions as to how to unclog a stubborn drain?

Someone told me there is some solution that you can create using household items that works really well something about a bleach solution perhaps. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

What is caustic soda? I tried a plunger in all of the drains and it didn't work. Thanks though!

I had a plumber look at it and he snaked the house. He said it looked like some debree and hair was clogging it and to clean it out. I think this guy was just lazy. I figured debree...ok use some draino. I don't want to spend alot since I rent this place and my landlady tells me that this is not covered as her expenses.

In my development I hear this is common.

I'm guessing that your main drain pipe is clogged. Could be tree roots. You will need to get it rooted out. Please be careful trying different cleaners because you may be mixing chemicals that form hazardous gases when combined. (Ammonia and bleach are very dangerous when mixed)

What kind of chemicals are you using? More than likely what kind of clog is it? (kitchen it is probably grease or build up shower or lav sink it is probably hair) Home Depot sells this stuff that is a hair eater, it comes in a black bottle inside a thick plastic bag basically light grade hydrochloric acid (they have the same thing in a grease formula), it is really acid so wear some gloves and glasses. Drano rarely works for me so I stay away from it, but this other stuff works everytime. If that doesn't do it you may just want to break down and buy a small snake some of the smaller ones sell for around $10 and up. Also if you are on a septic make sure you use something that says septic safe.

Maybe there's something trap inside or the tubes are pretty thin (old ones), if Drano didn't make a difference, perhaps you should ask an expert sometimes the best to do if you have a trouble like that for so long is to change the tubes, the plumber will tell you exactly what's wrong.

Hope you find a solution soon.

Sounds like your main sewer is blocked or partially blocked. In other words, not much you can do with store bought drain cleaners. A drain cleaning company needs to look at this.

Also, be careful using a lot of commercial drain cleaners, acids and other chemicals. You can really cause yourself some problems. They can explode and/or put some dangerous gases up in your house.

Time to call someone to look at this.

dont call a plumber call a drain guy ....have them roto router the line and then do an annual maintenance on a drain opener so you wont have this problem again.first askyour land lady if she is going to take care of it or you will and make a deduction in the rent to offset the payment.it is her responsibility.
