I;ve heard some people say we need universal healthcare because the government is more accountable to the people than businesses. So if anyone believes that, I have two followups:

Why is Bush still president while the CEO of Enron is in jail?

Why do bad businesses go bankrupt and shut down when the Republicans and Democrats keep getting elected?

Because sometimes life is just not smart or fair. Corporations rise and fall based on the intelligence, leadership and honesty of the CEO and the other leaders in the company. Most are held accountable for their actions. That model however is not the same for our politicians. They have safe districts in which no other candidate can win. That goes for Republicans and Democrats. Most politicians start out honest, but over time power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. That is true in business and in politics.

Let's see: Bush is the President of America and wasn't President of Enron. Duh!

I went bankrupt 9 years ago, should I go to jail? Should our ENTIRE country go under if a few politicians do illegal acts?

P.S. Bush hasn't done anything illegal as President, so why is there suggestion of him going to jail?

Here in our country,I think more accountable is within the government sector, because they are contolling the business especially the small & medium industries. They increase different kind of taxes while the businessminded people is struggling up to cents just to save for rainy days.

The government put that CEO in jail.

Without the govt, Enron would still be manipulating the "free" market.

Definately Business... when it comes right down to it people either like your product or they don't.

But don't be so fast to think government isn't held accountable. Every election period they can be voted out. But, as to your point... politicians can usually get away with more... ask Ted Kennedy... murder need not apply.

Business has to be accountable to shareholders and make a profit. Government is accountable to no one. If I was 9 trillion dollars in debt and only making interest payments I would be on the road to bankruptcy.

Fancy PR.

Great question. Why can't senate or congress get fired for not doing their job just like you and I can? Business has something to lose and are held accountable. Goverment has obviously nothing to lose for there lack of progress in anything and aren't held accountable unless its close to a election year.....if in fact they ever are!!
