What do you think is the purpose of not just your life but all life and simply existance of anything. Think about it.... what if there was NOTHING... no planets no people no life. Why did this all begin? I have my opinions but what are yours?

Purpose answers questions such as "why were we put here on earth" and "what was I meant to do here". Purpose presupposes a Creator by the very definition of the word.

Here's what atheist Bertram Russell said about purpose:

“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell (20th century philosopher, mathematician and Nobel Laureate)

We cannot create our own purpose because we don't know why we were put here. However, we can create for ourselves the illusion (or feeling) of living for a purpose. We can do that as follows:
>Do something praiseworthy such as "help as many people as possible" (from Answerer 6).
>Freely praise ourselves and imagine the praise of others. Bask in that praise.
>Your mind will soon automatically associate the good feelings that praise causes with the activity of helping. Helping other people then becomes the purpose of our being on this planet. It will seem as if helping others is our newly created purpose but in reality, our newly created purpose is to make ourselves feel good.

I'm not sure there is a purpose to life that could be easily defined. As a believer in God, I suppose that I should believe that there is a divine plan, but if there is, God is doing a good job keeping it obscure (at least from me). As I approach the age of 60, I have come to the conclusion that doing worthwhile work that one finds fulfilling gives a certain amount of meaning--to my life at any rate. This is one reason why, at present, I do not plan to retire from being a librarian. Perhaps I'll feel different in a few years. I hope this helps.

Life is what you make of it, so collectively human life is what mankind makes of it. Despite wars, hunger and a never ending list of other problems overall we have still done a decent job so far, at least that's my opinion. I'm sure there are those who would rather you and I felt terrible about ourselves and the way we exist, but I'm not buyin' it.

Somewhere in some far off dimension, you're sitting with your feet up on a desk with a virtual reality device attached to your head. You're living an entire life time in 15 minutes before your boss comes to your cubicle and tells you to get a move on with your work.
