This is also known as a membrane sweep. They put a few fingers up your 'do da' and sweep the membrane. I found this rather painful. Its supposed to help start labour, it didnt for me, I hadn't to be induced a week later. I bled for about a day after it and your left feeling a wee bit sore down below. If anything, it gets you used to people seeing you in all your glory!!

OK this is where the sweep over you membranes to try and get labour started...for some women it does not hurt for others it does i am afraid..but if it is really bad they will give you gas and air to relieve the pain...

good luck your going to be a mommy soon

hi! i am 7days overdue today and getting very uncomfortble! i had a stretch and sweep this morning and was really nervous, basically the midwife internally assesed me with her fingers and swept her fingers round the cervix to mix the membranes. apparently this means that the pregnant body produces a natural hormone that can kick start labour.
scince i had it 4hours ago i have had a "show" and a strong presure at the bottom of my pelvis.
it didnt hurt me, it was just like a type of pressure.

dont worrie! if i can do it you can!
good luck!

It shouldnt be painful, its a stretch and sweep of the cervix which quite often puts ladies into labour.
Good luck i'm sure you will be fine!!!!

I'll tell you from experience if you don't need it don't do it ! It is slightly to very painful depending on the Dr. who does it and your pain tolerance. I have read that it doesn't bring on your labor sooner or anything so why risk getting an infection?
Good Luck And Congrats!
Hope this helps

Sounds like theyre going to stretch your cervix and break your membranes.

Its not comfortable, but its not crazy painful. Its certainly not pleasant.

The doctor will insert their fingers and gently (or sometimes not so gently) pull your cervix open. It is very common to bleed afterward. I had it done twice and it did not put me into labor. I was induced anyway. Good luck. Oh, and I personally didnt find it painful.

are you pregnant then? a sweep is normally when they insert a medical swob into the opening of the cervix and 'sweep' it usually brings on labour... can be painful, depends on the person having it.

its where the m/w basically strokes your cervix with her finger.
it can hurt a bit more uncomfy than anything. its to try get the cervix to dialate.
when you have one take a sanitary towel with you just incase its succesful it could make you bleed slightly or even makes your plug come out.
you may feel minor cramping afterwards
