one of my garden magazines suggests you put down some chicken wire,just under the soil.once they get their foot or claws stuck,thet won't come back

There is a gold flower plant called marigolds. They work for keeping rabbits out so they might help in keeping cats out. I think animals dont like the smell or somthing.
Might be worth a try.

water hose. cats hate water .\or cayenne pepper sprinkled on the soil, a good cat spray to deter cats using it as a litter box can be found at most pet stores

I use cayanne pepper and chili powder (the cheap stuff from the Dollar store). I also have pine cones in my garden which are not a comfortable squatting place. You can also put plastic forks (tines up) in the garden.

get a bar of Iris spring soap cut up shavings with knife put on ground around plants should do it.
