Our airport is 3500' long. We want to divide it every 10' with yellow nylon rope. What can we use for free-standing posts or stanchions? 3500' / 10 = 350 spaces X 2 stanchions = 700

That's a lot. They gotta be inexpensive.

Any ideas? Thanks.

You did not mention whether or not the air strip is grassed or paved and what the event is.

Most fair rental plots are divided with markers laided on the ground.

Do you really need the divisions to be raised?

You can purchase 1" marker tape in different colours and lay it on the ground for the division lines.

This tape is not adhesive and has to be fastened to the ground.

Use cheap tent pegs which can normally be purchased form most hardware stores where the camping supplies are displayed.

Tie the tape to one tent peg; drive it flush to the ground; go to the other side of the strip and drive a tent peg into the gound part way; tie the tape to that tent peg and cut it; drive the tent peg down flush to the ground

If the strip is paved do this on the edge where there is grass or gravel.

These pegs are marked by the tape and can be removed easily with a claw hammer. Pulling them up by the tape does not always work - tape may break.

The pegs can be re-used for futer events and are small enough to store easily.

Hope this helps

Good Luck

If this is for a short term event perhaps you could rent pylons from a barricade company and add the cost on to the rental fee for each space this would make it very inexpensive and you would not have to store any of the equipment after the show just have it picked up.
For this many most companies would give you a good discount rate and possibly free yellow caution tape for dividing the spaces
