when it asks to simplify (-2x + 4)(-x - 3) is the answer 2x2+2x-12 or does simplified include 2(x2+x-6) instead?

(-2x + 4)(-x - 3)
F.O.I.L. (First, Outer, Inner, Last)

=2x^2 +6x - 4x -12
=2x^2 +2x - 12
this is most likely the answer you are looking for

however, a 2 can be factored out of each term giving you:
=2(x^2 + x - 6)

you can also break down the "x^2 + x - 6"

so another possible answer is:

=2(x+3)(x-2)

I would go with the first answer, but if this is a homework assignment have all of those answers on there to show that you "know what you are doing" lol

enjoy, hope this helped.

Mathematically, when asked to simplify an expression, it is put into its simplest form, which means that you factorise it as far as you can, so the answer is:

2[x+3][x-2]

Use the FOIL method.

Meaning: First, Outer, Inner, Last. That's the order you multiply.

So, multiply -2x*-x(First)
Then, -2x*-3(Outer)
Then, 4*-x(Inner)
Then, 4*-3(Last)

I am not going to solve it for you but this should give you the information to solve it.

I hope I helped!

Answer: both are correct. It depends upon one's taste. I'd prefer the latter, 2(x^2 + x -6) though.

ummm hmm..im in accelerated math but i dont think we learned putting 2 paranthasees together with not alike terms. but then again...u might be older than me. no offence. um but i would think maybe u can use distributive property so it becomes.
2x-12.

by simplify in this example it really means expand, so either form should be ok.
