It is truly amazing the amount of psychics on this board. Some of you rival Ms. Cleo! Really. You all impress me with your thorough knowledge and understanding of what Hank Aaron feels inside…
Jokes aside, why would you all think that Hank Aaron is being forced to say something he doesn’t want to? Told to say so by a public relations rep? That truly is funny. Hank does what he wants to do. No PR guy is going to twist his arm to make him say something he doesn’t want to say. The man is just that – a man. A man who has respect for Barry’s accomplishments and the game of baseball.
But it still surprises me how so many of you don’t know much about the history of drug culture in baseball. If you’re going to love this game, then love this game, and learn something about its history. Many of you still regard Hank Aaron as the HR King. However, I don’t see any of that hate or disgust for Hank’s use of amphetamines during his career. Those Greenies he was poppin’ weren’t Skittles. Understand that drugs have been a part of baseball for at least sixty years. MLB has encouraged and kept baseball’s drug culture alive. Now all of a sudden you put it all on Bonds? None of that for Clemens? Yeah…you know…Roger Clemens. The same Roger Clemens that Jason Grimsley dimed out. None of that hate for players who have actually tested positive for steroid use? That’s just plain hypocritical. If you’re going to hate steroids in baseball, then hate the guys who have been caught using them. Don’t make this about one guy…unless you Barry-haters truly just don’t like the newly crowned HR King for…other reasons.

Many won't accept it because people like combining a players legacy with the record. The fact is that when you look at a stat book, Barry has more HRs and thats that. No astrix is needed. Whether he is juiced or not isn't an issue. If you believe 756 is higher than 755 then you have a new record holder. People need to learn that its only a stat. Its just a number on paper. The only thing that matters is the players legacy. Aaron is still number one in my book there.

First, regardless of the steroid allegations or Hank being Bonds godfather, it took Bonds more games played to get where he is right now. Yeah, he is the home run king of the modern era, but it just seems that had Bonds retired after the amount of games either Hank or the Babe played, he wouldn't even be in contention.
And I know some of the comments are that Bonds played against better pitching and plsyers......just stick to the era and knowledge that was around at that time.
Congratulations, Barry, anyway. Records are meant to be broken.

Of course Willie Mays accepted it, he's Barroid's godfather. Hank Aaron just did the classy thing as Hank has always done. You can tell by the way Hammerin Hank has expressed himself, that he knows Barroid cheated and he isnt happy about it.

Hank Aaron said he could accept it but wouldn't go to the games. That says to me he just said it for good public relations but in his heart he thinks Barry Bonds is as slimy as the rest of us Bonds haters do! I hope they at least put an asterix next to his name in the record book and some else breaks the record so Bonds is pushed aside like he deserves. Maybe Arod?

Willie Mays is his godfather. He's been rooting for Barry since he was a baby.
Henry Aaron is simply one of the classiest men on the planet. I don't expect many people to match his grace.

Hank Aaron probably was advised to do that by a p-r man. The rest of us are free to say what we want. Bonds was juicing and we all know it. Furthermore, Aaron's career coincided with some truly great pitchers (Bob Gibson, Don Drysdale, Juan Marichal, to name a few).

Mays is his Godfather so I wouldn't expect less. But, Aaron is probably one of the classiest men in sports history and he did it because he was not going to judge Bonds for all of the ALLEGATIONS surrounding steriods. If you ask me, I would say that Bonds deserves to be the homerun king. He has been for many years, even before the allegations, one of the best hitters/fielders/overall players of all time. I give congrats to him, but I can tell you now that AROD will have that record, which will stand, within the next 8-9 years.

With all the steriod allegations or not.... he still would have had the record for HR's! He may not be the approachable yes man to the public or media, but you can't deny he one of the Greatest baseball players to play the game....and for all of you that think Babe Ruth would have had this many in this day and age.... well .... I respect your opinion. Let's see if A-rod can stay healthy enough to break it!

Youre absolutely right. And you can also add Tony Gwynn and Cal Ripken to that list. Those are four of the greatest players ever. I'd take the opinion of those four Hall of Famers over the opinion of these inflamed racist jackoffs any day.
