I think there are way too many laws, and that most of them are much too complex for most people to understand.

And either because of the volume or the complexity, too many laws are not enforced -- making the rest meaningless.

In the US, we've abandoned the rule of law and substituted the rule of popular opinion -- people think that criminals should be let free if we like them, and that people who have broken no laws should be punished if we don't.

That's not a society based on laws anymore.
