Should you not get any answers from a "native" try asking Google for "apartments to rent - Sydney Australia".
I've just had a quick look and there are loads of web sites for you to explore.

Apartments in Australia are usually called flats or units. A good place to look is the classified advertisements in the Sydney Morning Herald on a Saturday http://www.smh.com.au

Look for "LJ Hooker", "Elders", "The Professionals" on the net. These are three of the larger real estate (realtor) companies in Australia and will have many apartments listed.
