They seem to be so big on civil rights and there was a time when the civil rights movement (rightfully so) was fighting for equal opportunity. However, I don't think the liberals of today have any clue what they were fighting for or what the words "equal opportunity" even mean. Like most liberal ideas, even the few that actually are good ideas to begin with, if they are successful they always want to take more and more.
"Eqaul Opportunity" simply means that any LEGAL CITIZEN has the opportunity and the right to excel and or achieve anything that they are QUALIFIED for and WORK to get to without being impeaded by the government so long as it is within the boundaries of the law.
But liberals have created the "law" of entitlement and affirmative action. They have created a "class envy" society where they believe "equal opportunity" is to have the opportunity to dip into the success of someone else and freely give it to someone else to make them "equal".
Your thoughts...

Thomas, thank you! You are the perfect example... Unions actually had a purpose back in the early 1900's when employers were aloud to do as they pleased. However, in our current day there are laws that govern what an employer can and can't do and the main focus was that of working conditions and a fair compensation. As per the example, libs just want more and more and unions (one of the highest forms of organized crime) bully companies into a list of "demands" that are unjustified and to which they have no right to. They have overstepped the boundaries. Why do you think US automakers are getting smoked in the marketplace? Why do you think most "US" cars are being built in other countries now? A GM line worker makes roughly $48.00 an hour to apply one part to another part. Unions force cities to pay outrageous contracts for woork and then threaten non-union bidders. How is this equal?
Oh, and your little ps rant. You display everything you claim I did, yet no namecalling here

Bugged... the country does give you the right to your ideas and the right to free speech... it does not afford you the right to be heard or that anyone has to listen.

Who else.... so I am a bigot because I believe everyone (meaning any race or sex) should have the opportunity to be successful and they should be rewarded accordingly... to their hard work and they should be able to keep most of their reward for their efforts? Wow... under your definition, I must be a bigot then.

Crushinator... I can't single out every lib that is for or against a particular liberal idea. In this forum you will have to realize that people are going to speak in general terms when that party or group is the "father" of that idea or when the majority of the party supports that idea. Good for you for not supporting affirmative action. Does that go the same for the hundreds of entitlement socialist programs out there? Because that would also be a form of affirmative action.

I agree, as with most liberal ideas, they want to reward people for "bad behavior." They don't want to hold individual citizens accountable for their own actions, they want the government to insure that no matter what the actions of the individual citizen is, that they are entitled to all the benefits of citizenship.
Example: Girl has unprotected sex, give her an abortion.
Example: Drug User can not get job, because can't pass drug test, give him welfare, and call it a psychological problem.
Example: Worker doesn't sign up for the company insurance program, give him free medical.
Example: Serial Killer gets death penalty, rehabilitate him and give him parole.
Example: Kid drops out of school. Give him Free College
Example: Ted Kennedy kills Mary Jo Kopechne, elect him to congress forever!

To liberals, equal opportunity as they see it can only be achieved by taxing the death of out of businesses. When a lib looks at any successful big business, he doesnt see people that are hard-working, self-sacrificing that took many risks to start it, just trying to be successful at what they do.
No. They see corruption, evil, indifference, oppression that needs to be taxed into submission in order to bring about good for everyone to equal the ill-will or indifference they have toward their community, consumer, and especially the poor.
Equal opportunity may entail many things but one thing it should never be, is trying to empower the unsuccessful, by punishing the successfull.

Good question - But what do you do if you're a freaky freak without the ability to establish understanding or defining oneself in a social category that doesn't make you solely stand out completely alone?
In simple terms:
If each single solitary democrat doesn't have their "own" identity and they want to force their opinions and beliefs on everyone else (even in their own party) then what category do they fall in?
Equal Opportunity (to them) means that for every American person there has to be a single, solitary set of definitions for each person within our Country.
Only then will they achieve the true feeling of freedom as they presume Equal Opportunity for everyone will prevail.
edit: Mr. Perfect, you said:
"Bugged... the country does give you the right to your ideas and the right to free speech... it does not afford you the right to be heard or that anyone has to listen."
And I say:
But the liberals independently cramming all their ideals on others by redefining "Equal Opportunity" anyway they see fit is okay - per your retort to me? lol

Yes, liberals do know the meaning of equal opportunity.
One of the things that it means means is balance between labor and management, which is something that we have not had since Raygun and the Repubs busted the Air Controllers Union and made it possible for management to discriminate against any worker who wanted to become involved in organizing a union.
P.S. Self-righeous Repubs who speak from ignorance and ask inflammatory questions for the sake of stirring the sh*t pot do little to further national dialogue and further the interests of our nation. Name calling and insinuation are immature school yard tactics that speak volumes about the wisdom of the person who does the name calling.

Liberals created the concept of “equal opportunity” realizing that the concept was to be implemented after centuries of discrimination and lack of opportunity. Those who haven’t experienced that background don’t need any assistance but those who were left far behind by the previous system need a little help to catch up.

Equal opportunity is at the heart of representative democracy. Forced social equality is the heart of communism. The difference is that in a democracy, the government provides no restrictions to success. In communism the government restricts the success of one class in order to (supposedly) benefit another by making them equal.

Great Day to you, also!! About the liberals, your expoundment is correct !!!! Further, the liberals believe, whole heartly, that their ideas are the only ideas worthy of any consideration!!! The leaders of the current " Liberal Movement" , promote these sets of ideas, not for the benefit of the American people, but rather as a means to gain power, prestige, BUT MAINLY AS AN EXCELLENT MEANS TO GAIN WEALTH !!!!!!!!! IF their ambitions provide any benefit / s to the American public, wellll, o.k. !!! If no benefit to the American's in general, " THAT'S O.K. TOO" , "I HAVE ACHIEVED MY GOALS AND BY MY VERY EXISTANCE, THE PUBLIC WILL BENEFIT !!! I AM THE WALKING, TALKING SAVIOR AND THEREFORE, I SHALL PROVIDE EVERYONE WITH THE PLEASURE ( BENEFIT) BY THEIR JUST LOOKING AT ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Such is my opinion of the politicians- today- !!!!!!

my thoughts... You seem to think everything that you disagree with all liberals are for, well you're wrong. I'm not for affirmative action for many reasons. If you don't like something do something about it write your congressman, instead of crying that liberals do this, liberals do that. You're not part of the solution and you're attitude is definitely part of the problem

I'm a liberal and I am totally against tax, welfare, and social security.
I believe things should be the way they are laid out in the US Constitution and Bill of Rights. If we just do that we wouldn't be in this awful situation around the world.

Liberals are trashing this country and tearing its work ethic to shreds. There is no excusing undermining qualified people in favor of those who aren't as qualified. It is unconscionable and effectively disadvantages our nation as a whole.
Prime example -
Just look at who the party is rallying behind in its presidential campaign. They have ample qualified candidates but, no, they deem it more important to elect a black or, a woman than to ensure our nation's welfare falls into capable hands.
