I have recently been given a Belkin Pre-N router without the set up CD or Manual. I have read quite a lot about this device online but the amount of jargon is extremly confusing. I have read that I need to connect from the wall to a Modem and then to the router. Could someone please explain in lay terms how to connect this to a BT ADSL connection ( My Laptop does have built in wireless so do I need the set up .exe) and where I could find a set up .exe for the Belkin Pre-N router ?

It is pretty straight forward.
Your Internet Service Provider furnised you witha MODEM
Now where you would normally run an ethernet cable from that modem to your computer to connect.
Instead of running from your modem to your computer you run from there modem to your WAN Port on the pre N ROUTER.
Thats basiclly all there is to it and then you can use any of the other ports on the Router to Connect if you so desire to Hardwire or you can type in 192.168.1.1 and this will open up the Routers Utility. But if you are not sure what your doing I would see if you can get the paper work on the Router.

first of all you do not need any setup disc or program to configure the router......just an ethernet connection to it and a web browser. If its a Belkin router, plug it into a pc's ethernet connection and power it up....the computer will get an ip address assigned to it by the router, the open up a browser window (internet explorer, firefox, etc.) and type in 192.168.2.1 and you'll be prompted to enter the default login for the router......from the interface you can setup all that you need for your networking......as far as connecting to the wall and modem....depends on your specific connection as to wehter the router is connected directly to the connection source or indirectly to a modem. ADSL connections run through the phoneline and should have a filter and a dsl modem for your connection, so hook the ethernet cable from the modem to your router then use another ethernet cable to connect the router to your pc.....at least for the configuration part of things...once the network is setup, you have security turned on and set the id and password, written down the encryption code, you can disconnect the ethernet cable and reconnect to your network wirelessly.

If the router does not have a built in adsl modem you will need a separate one which will connect to your adsl connection and feed it to the router to then give out to your laptop etc. what is the model of the router? is it a Modem/router/firewall or just a router/firewall ?
