To be frank (if you don't mind me changing my name for a few seconds. lol.) you probably won't notice any difference in performance. Having said that, however, it limits your expansion capability in that the more hardware you connect to your motherboard the more power (wattage) you'll need. i.e., if you add more hard drives, more powerful graphics card, etc. you'll need more wattage.

As a general rule never reduce the wattage of the PCU in your system. If it is a manufacturer built system it will probably JUST have enough power to cope with normal loads, but once anything is changed by you, it will fall over.
You don't mention what it is you had before and have now of course, so if you had 1000w and are now down to 970w that best not to worry! However, if your new PSU is less than 400w it will struggle to cope with most current GFX and a bunch of add-on hardware. As a general rule I would not go below 600w when replacing at the moment.

Every device on your PC uses Watts Depends how many things attached inside and out off you pc..
I,v maxxed out my 350 watt Card with a extra Hard drive, a Bulky video card, TV- Radio card, 3x 2 gig clips of ram and sometimes when I connect my data cable for my cell phone with all those extras the PC will reboot.

Never trust a salesperson at PC world.
The original one is rated for a reason, to replace that for a lower power one is not good.
Many functions depend on a good supply of power. If you play games the graphics card needs a good supply, with more in reserve for other applications. I would be inclined to take it back and demand they replace it with one the same as the original or better.
