In the dark ages, and beyond, many belief systems were based on folk law and superstition. In proceeding years the advancement of science shook or shattered many of these beliefs. The Solar system and its operation is a good example of this. Many believed that the earth was the centre (yes, I'm in Australia and we know how to spell centre the correct way) and science challanged this.
