I think it's more like leading Halliburton, Bush, Cheney, et al, to oil....
We have created a civil war in Iraq. This is what deceit and greed get you. But why should Bush & Cheney care - they have enough money to, say, go live on Mars? (Maybe that's why Bush is so interested in a space mission to "settle" Mars? lol). They certainly could each buy an island somewhere....
One of the fatal mistakes was in not understanding, or at least, underestimating, tribal culture and Eastern culture. Western culture is far removed and different.
The warring tribal factions in Iraq could only be unified by a strong iron hand. That hand was Saddam Hussein. And before any of you whine about how evil he was, consider that it was the United States that PUT HIM IN POWER in the first place! (The U.S. giveth...and the U.S. taketh away...).
I don't think there will EVER be a unified Iraq for precisely that reason. Only a strong leader would be able to unify, and the U.S. Bush/Cheney administration wants a puppet government they can control for trade/economic reasons. You can't have it both ways. Why do you think they keep saying that we could be in Iraq for decades? Are you willing to be there for decades? I'm not!
Now that we've literally destroyed their country, created terrorist cells and insurgents where none existed before -(remember, it was confirmed that Hussein had nothing to do with 9/11 - and who was that guy again? Oh yeah, Osama bin Forgotten....but hey, isn't he a Saudi, member of the royal saudi family, and living in Afghanistan? and isn't the Bush family and the Saudi royal family business partners/personal friends....oh yeah - maybe that's why he's "bin forgotten"...)
and managed to incur the hatred of the majority of the rest of the world, what are we to do? We can either try to find another strong arm like Saddam Hussein, or we can continue like we've been doing, with people dying every day for no good reason, or we can pull out and make them take responsibility for their own country. Which will most likely result in genocide. We've created a mess for which both Bush & Cheney should be impeached. They should be tried in the world court, for that matter, for high crimes and misdemeanors. I believe they are both guilty of treason, but that's another matter.
We just need to get out of Iraq. We need to bring in the U.N. and other countries for peacekeeping purposes and collectively, collaboratively with other countries, need to give aid.
Like the old saying goes, "what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive" -which is what Bush & Cheney did. Maybe we should just send them and their families to Iraq. That would be the best sentence of all for them! They could truly then reap what they have sown.

The Iraqi government may have a chance at uniting Iraq if they can adopt a fair oil revenue distribution plan—not the current oil grab proposed by Bush and the big oil companies.
People will try to act in their own financial best interests if the terms are fair. I think that is probably the only hope for the mess that currently exists in Iraq.

The US has no coherent plan in Iraq The Iraqi "government" is a joke with no authority that is recognized by the ordinary citizen.
Even if the faux government should succeed in maintaining some sort of fragile cease fire within the next 40 years, there is no guarantee that that government won't be as corrupt and brutal as Saddam.

There is not really an "Iraq" like we think of our country as being a unified nation with 50 states.
The Brits went in and sort of rounded up all these sects and "called" it Iraq. It was more convenient for them.
Iraq is not a country. Not the way WE think of a country. So it is virtually IMPOSSIBLE for them to band together the way we expect them to.
It would have been nice if bush had known ONE DAMN THING about Iraq before he ruined the place.

The people in Iraq must decide this for themselves. Any externally applied governmental solutions are going to be in place for only as long as American forces are there to protect them. I remain skeptical that there ever can be a " unified" Iraq on its own. Too much history and bloodshed would impede this form happening.

Iraq is a dysfunctional family with neighbors that hate them and want to steal from them and kill them, just as Saddam did. While the coalition forces are there, they will take the punnishment. When they leave Iraq will be annexed by Iran.

And the Iraqi Parliament is taking the month of August off with the aid of warmth. They understand the U. S. won't leave(the oil). you're able to assist a rustic win yet whilst they do no longer care, you may no longer cause them to.

what government?
those people are accustomed to being ruled by an iron fist by a dictator like Saddam was. the soft make-shift government the US is trying to implant is like employing Martha Stewart to help scare straight rebellious urban youths.
basically, there is little hope without a radical change in the type of government they choose to implement.

The majority of the people of Iraq do support the government. It is the tiny insurgent minority who do not.

What good is a puppet government?
Sure, they were "elected", but they are controlled by us.
