A phobia is an unreasonable fear of something.
Hippotomonstrosesquipedalophobia is the fear of long words.It is the second largest word in the dictionary after pneumononoultramicroscopicsiliocovolanoconiosi. You wont find these words in an Oxford or Chambers dictionary.

It's spelled hippopotomonstrosesquippedalio and it is the fear of long words. Just look at some of the words in it such as a big chunk of the word 'hippopotamus' which is a big animal, and then following that, something a bit like the word monstrous.

It is however, very ironic that the word explaining a fear of long words, is in itself, a long word and will be immediately displayed when you try to explain your illness (like when you tell someone you have a lisp).
