saying something and doing the same are two very different things.
maybe the reason why the bible told us to listen to what the preacher preaches and not follow what he does.

People can only think clearly when it's not their problem. Let me give you an example, have you ever watch boxing? During the break, the corner man always urge the fighter on, giving him all kind of advices but when the bell ring, can the fighter do exactly what the corner man want him to do? Most of the time no because the corner man can see more clearly than the fighter because no one is punching his face, the fighter on the other hand can't think too clearly because his face is being punch.

My life is no longer screwed up. I have all my finances in order, plenty of money to pay the bills, a home, a car, a beautiful grandson and another on the way. We old people give advise because most of us have been through the school of hard knocks and know what will and what won't work.

*We learn many lessons when we lose.
Moreover
*almost all of us know what is good and bad, reasonable and not reasonable, logical and illogical, rational and irrational.
So we can give a decent advice to someone on demand.
But
*to practice it is a different thing which is effected by different factors like our nature, emotions, ego and pride, the company we keep, our greed, biased behavior, addiction etc.
Example:
We know that anger is not helpful and we advise every one not to be angry but often we can't control ourselves when there is a situation.

Because I am never able to take a look at my life from another person's perspective. I don't always see the trouble I'm heading into because I am looking at it head on. With you I can see where you are going and help stop you before you get there.

Hi Sweetie!
Isn't that the fun of being here at Yahooo!answers. Everyone is messed up someway or another. We all try to give advice through our own experiences. We are all trying to show our wisdom, and at the same time, we show our deficiencies.
I would love it if you can step into my life and make me more financially stable, more understanding, calm me down, enlighten me, ..............blah,blah,blah...
But right now, you have heard me. Isn't that why you are on this site, too!?

Because, having screwed up my own life,I consider myself to be well experienced [if that experience is also screwed up,so what?] to advise you.And who told you that I would want you to do better than me?[that is what this advice is for].Take it or leave it.

I think a lot of people already know the solution but they need to hear it from someone else. Sometimes the truth hurts. And they may need encouragement, affirmation, praise, etc.

Is this one aimed at someone/something in particular or just a general wondering as the possibilities for answers at the moment are pretty endless...
Care to narrow it down at all?
