You can smoke, drink, have sex with or eat whatever you want as far as I'm concerned (within reason; don't have sex with heroin, kids), just don't whine about the effects or make other people do it with you.

Is there a question in there somewhere?
It isn't a matter of "being ok" with homosexualitiy, it's just a general attitude of personal responsibility, a matter of believing you are an adult and should be free to make your own choices, as long as you understand there are consequences to WHICHEVER choices you make.
However, homosexuality isn't a choice, no more than I "chose" to be a heterosexual. Since homosexuals do not, as a rule, reproduce, the "genetic condition" (if indeed if it is something in the genes) of homosexuality is, species-wide, self-correcting. While I don't find two men (or two women) in love (or lust) to be attractive or particularly sexually stimulating, as long as they don't sit on my lap and soul-kiss, I say, let 'em be, as long they are consenting, responsible adults. While I consider myself intelligent, I shy away from the arrogance which comes from preventing someone else's behavior "for their own good".
"Intolerance" to others' "personal vices", at least as far as I'm concerned, begins only when their behavior involves another, to that other's loss or injury. You want to get drunk every night? Fine with me, as long as you do it at your home, you have a way to GET home which doesn't involve you driving anything more complicated than your shoes. The time you drink too much and get behind the wheel shows irresponsibility and demonstrates an immaturity to co-exist as an adult in an adult society.
Unfortunately, there are literally thousands of immature drunks who refuse to stop drinking and driving, resulting in loss of life and property. This cannot be tolerated in an adult society, so laws were put into effect, showing drunk drivers EXACTLY what the consequences are if they do the irresponsible thing. (Just so you know, I don't drink, but I was stationed in Germany for 2 years and LOVE their beer)
Smokers can no longer force others to breathe in the toxins their smoke (the smoke their OWN bodies wouldn't ingest, that's why it's exhaled) in bars and other public places, in most places. Again, I was a two pack a day Marlboro Man, until last November, when another $8.00 per carton State Tax was passed, and I could no longer afford to smoke. While I agree in theory with the "second-hand smoke" deal, they are goin gafter an easy target, because so few people smoke anymore anyways. It ain't ciggies which cause that brown cloud over Phoenix on hot days. It isn't second hand smoke which causes weather forecasters to issue smog reports for the next week. It's auto exhaust, and processing pollution. Where are all the protests for cleaning THOSE up? Of course, there are NONE, because everyone is an offender, or an accessory after the fact.
It comes down to, or at least it SHOULD come down to, do whatever you want, I don't care, as long as you aren't hurting anyone else, either mentally, physically or economically, without their consent.

Voting is a joke! Until corporate money is eradicated from the political process, your vote means absolutely NOTHING. The amazing thing is that there are plenty of MORONS who believe their vote matters and that they are exercising civic responsibility, when all they are really doing is reinforcing the status quo ad nauseum.

I wish people would educate themselves instead of just believing all the hype that radical right-wingers propagandize to them. Don't you know that many of these propaganda tactics come from the likes of Hitler? And did you know that George W. Bush's grandfather, Prescott Bush, helped finance Hitler until he was ordered to stop by the US. government?
And haven't you heard of The New World Order, a group with such members as Don Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, and George Herbert Walker Bush? http://www.newamericancentury.org/
Peruse that website for awhile and it ought to chill your bones.
"Liberals" is an archaic word. Most people today would prefer to be called progressives, with a view toward looking forward, rather than permissiveness. I tend to agree.
Let me ask you, why does it bother you that someone is gay or lesbian or whatever? How does someone else's sexual orientation affect YOU? Do they come to your house to cuddle, hold hands, and have sex? Do they stand out in front of your house to kiss and caress each other? Do they knock on your door and try to convince you, or your children, that you/they should be gay instead of straight?
Being gay for most people is not a choice, it's just the way they are wired. By default, in case you didn't know, ALL human beings start out, in the womb, as FEMALE. Did you even know that? And at precisely the RIGHT TIME in fetal development, and in just the right amount, male hormones (androgens) are released that make the fetus develop masculine features. But sometimes things just go wrong, and not enough androgens are available. Biologically, this results in a male body but a female "mind", so to speak. This can also happen with women who are lesbians, in that they receive too much male hormones (did you know that every woman has a certain amount of testosterone?) that results in a female body but a male "mind" (for lack of a better term).
I agree that some people do choose a gay/lesbian lifestyle, sometimes temporarily, such as when they are in prison. Women more than men might choose a gay lifestyle at an older age, particularly if they have been abused by men.
Progressives/liberals take a "live and let live" attitude that can best be described biblically as "judge not lest ye be judged". Judging is God's province, not man's (or woman's). It always surprises me why most conservatives, particularly the radical ones, always seem to want to stick their noses where they don't belong - into the lives and business of other people! Don't they have anything better to do?
Contrary to what you might think, most progressives/liberals that I know do not condone gay marriage, but most do support civil unions.
It also never fails to surprise me that while conservatives seem to be so upset with other people's sex lives, they don't seem to be too upset when their elected/appointed "leaders" (and I use the term lightly) prove to be liars and thieves, and behave more like members of organized crime than anything else. Greed and selfishness are okay, but gay sex isn't? Sending our kids overseas to die or be maimed so that a handful of wealthy individuals can line their pockets is okay? Lying to Congress is okay? Taking bribes is okay? Outing a CIA agent is okay?
Are these what you call "personal vices"? The difference between tolerating homosexuality and the above is that what two consenting adults do in the privacy of their own home or hotel room is their business. As long as it doesn't affect me adversely, why should I care what they do?
But when our elected/appointed leaders lie, cheat, steal, bribe, and send our kids off to die for their own profit, that does affect me. It lowers the quality of services our country provides. It literally kills our children. It's a bad role model for our children. And it leaves a legacy that my children's children's children will be paying for long after I'm gone.
And last but not least, these "personal vices" as you call them enable corrupt people to prey on those that can't defend themselves. It ruins our reputation as a country and as world leaders. It makes us the target of terrorists.
So go ahead and don't vote. You obviously don't want to live in a democracy, anyway.

Always vote...no matter what. It's one of your fundamental rights.
You will never completely agree with any candidate and shouldn't...that would make you a partisan android.
Simply choose the one that fits most of your needs. But don't ever simply refuse to vote.

True. The new liberal in America is the epitome of hypocrisy. I think though if you don't vote don't criticize. I usually vote more against a candidate than for his/her opponent.

That's because liberals like taxes. Sin taxes are just an excuse to tax. They know how to tax cigarettes and booze but haven't figured out how to tax sex yet.
