Several times. Thumbs up/down generally have little to do with the quality of the answer, or whether it will be chosen. People tend to choose the answer that best validates what they originally thought.

Yes I once got 21 thumbs up and was looking forward to a 31 point best answer.......and guess what happened

getting the most thumbs up doesn't necessarily mean your answer is the best one. it could just be you were the first to answer and yours is the easiest to read... how many times have you seen a "yes" or "no" answer with the most thumbs up because they were the first response?
