"In a radio interview Madeleine's mother, Kate McCann, said that although there was no positive news she was encouraged that people were still looking for her daughter.

"It says to us that people are still looking and that is really important and we would encourage that," she said.

"I probably have more hope now than I did at the beginning."

She added: "We haven't had any news to the contrary that Madeleine isn't alive, and that's very important."
"

Maybe her reaction is understandable if she believed from the start that the sighting was false, but it does seem to be a bit of a 'shrug the shoulders, oh well it wasnt her' kind of reaction.

Maybe she read my comments early on when I said the DNA result would prove to be false and she knows that if Dave S says something it must be true (lol, I say that last line tongue in cheek so don't all jump down my throat!)

their BBC news interview last night gave me goose bumps.
maybe can be a bit of a pessimistic person sometimes but if my little girl was missing and blood from my holiday apartment had been sent to the UK for DNA testing I would have been beside myself with grief, i would not have been able to sit calmly in front of the cameras saying we still believe she is alive . . .
maybe they know more than we do (about the police investigation) but I just don't get their reactions to pieces of news.
Are we being sucked in by media bull s*it I wonder? What do they know (from the police) that we don't
its the only way I can explain their demeanor.

There's one question I'd like to ask YOU!
You seem to know so much about how some-one should react and how they should display their grief and emotions BUT have you ever been in a similar situation? I think not!
I have lost a child and all I see when I look at Kate McCann is a deadness in her eyes and false bravado. I recognise it as does my sister, we both had that same look months after we lost our children. We didn't need to hide our grief but it IS what people do!
I've seen it a lot in my near 60 years of life and unfortunately I have seen too often what losing a child does to parents. I've seen that same look in the eyes of parents of 'missing' children as well and I know that to them even the belief the child is still alive somewhere doesn't take away the grief and heart-ache of losing them!
I don't know what the truth is and neither do you!
I prefer to keep my hopes up that the child is still alive although logically I know the chances of it are very small.

The more time that passes the less the chances are that she will be seen again. The McCanns have done a monumental job of keeping the story in high profile, Kate obviously has a set of rules that she is working with to keep her sane for her other two children whilst maintaining a positive mind set for her lost child. I also did not think it was her daughter in Belgium and I am hoping that if she never sees her daughter again that it is because the person that took her really wanted a child so badly that had to steal one - rather than any other bad reason.

I don't suppose it's either, dave. I really wish your understanding of human psychology was better than it is. If so, you'd stop wasting your time (and ours) with this stuff.

I'd guess that they both have to avoid getting too hyped up about possible sightings, DNA tests, etc., because they don't know how it will turn out.

If the child in Belgium turned out to be Madeleine that would be amazing because it would mean that she was still alive as recently as last week. So they want it to have been her but probably emotionally can't afford to pin their hopes on it because if it's not (which seems most likely now) they could fall very hard indeed and that could be the last straw for their ability to function.

Similarly, if blood is found that could be Madeleine's, they have to hope that it isn't - but at the same time, if it's not, they still will be no nearer knowing where she is and what's happened to her.

Is it really any wonder that they seem contained about it?

It's not her, kids of that age change so much in 3 months. And as if the kidnapper would take her to a place heavily populated with tourists! Plus, the longer she's missing the more the money will be flooding into their 'fund'. Plus I am really getting Peed off with the McCann's same-old same-old scripted interviews which drone on about the same old things but fail to actually throw any light on anything.

Dave,
The result is not negative. The DNA was that of a man not a girl. Basically they could not find DNA of the girl, but there was a little girl.

It doesn't mean it wasn't Madeleine.

I don't trust them since day one. Something fishy is going on big time. I didn't the McCanns should be investigated. The plot is thickening.

just heard news, DNA doesn't match the bottle. Matches a man.

Sorry wrong question I know, but was just wondering about the McCanns, they don't ever seem to be very upset, if my daughter had been pinched, I'd cry all the time.

people seem to think because blood was found in the apartment that the mccanns have killed their own daughter. it's pathetic. who knows how long that blood has been there for, could be days, could be years can't you just give them a break

No one can "get used to" a sighting of their missing child. Its obvious to anyone with an ounce of compassion that Kate is holding on to all she has...Hope.

So the DNA results are negative...Thats sad but that doesn't prove that the search is over & Madeleine is no more.

I can almost hear the hounds baying (for blood?) but what if that blood is 7years old?
