can turn anything and everything into a partisan issue despite any facts to the contrary and that liberals cant seem to... well do anything at all?

If the neocons are evil and the democrats completely ineffectual what is left for those of us that walk the middle?

Most answers lie between the extremes. Your just to partisan to realize that.

When did extremism become the American way? I thought that was what we were fighting against.

If you are in the middle that just means you don't have an opinion.

No matter how long I live I will never understand the republican party. The party of accountability, the high moral ground, fiscally responsible and none of these things are being followed under President Bush's leadership. As a matter of fact this administration is more like the KGB, can it possibly get any more secretive? As for the democrats, I don't totally agree. Clinton did good for this country. The government shrank, welfare was reformed, good paying jobs were available, unemployment was low and he left office with a surplus. All the things I thought the republicans were supposed to do when in power, yet it was a democrat that did those things. Democrats only get stifled when the republicans are in control or like now play obstructionist politics. If the democrats win enough seats in congress and the white house, my guess, we're going to see some big changes in America. If we have hundreds of billions to spend on war, we damn well need to find those same hundreds of billions to spend in America on Americans. Why are our borders still open for anyone to walk across? We have been flat out lucky we haven't been attacked again, secure the borders.

I don't find it "amazing" anymore. It is most disappointing.

The "truth" is hard to find in this corporate controlled economy. But here's a little truth for you to digest.... slowly.

1) The 2000 Supreme Court decision that installed Bush 43 into office was a coup 'd 'teat of our election.
2) Going back to early 1913, our money was "privitized" when the Federal Reserve was created, which took the "power to create currency" away from the people and gave it to the richest bankers in the world.
3) Then the same year the 16th Amendment gave the government the right to tax our "incomes", when all the tax money up to that point had been derived from import, use taxes and many other kinds of taxes EXCEPT income tax. (In a country where work is supposed to be the "way" to get ahead, there should be no tax on income) It doesn't matter if it really wasn't radified, they will put you in jail if you don't pay your taxes.
4) Now, our energy companies are privitized (Enron scam of putting plants down for repair so prices go sky high), and the media only tells you what the corporations want you to hear.
5) Wake up and smell the corporation's air, water and everything. We can't do anything about it because they have the power, and the people do not have the power.
6) Sorry, to be the one to break it to you, but you are simply not getting the truth on TV or in our universities.
7) You have to read and be a critical thinker, which means you have to examine the situation and resolve what the most logical answer is to all the questions.....(Read Nader's "The Good Fight" and David Sirota's "Hostile Takeover")
Finally, when you add up, Why this and Why that about the Dems and the GOP, the only rational answer is this is a corporate controlled economy, and the media has convinced all the sheep that they like it that way. (Otherwise, why do we spend money we don't have on Iraq and Space Shuttles, but we have NO MONEY for roads, schools, free education, health care like FRANCE, CANADA, ENGLAND, ETC????)

You're right about the Republicans, they're very skilled in divisive techniques, and at turning issues upside down.

Democrats are not ineffectual. Some things have been accomplished in Congress this term such as the minimum wage bill, increases in military benefits for housing and healthcare and an increase in Veteran's benefits. And, let's not forget the investigations into shady White House dealings and the politicization of the department of justice.

Also consider the fact that after Obama said he'd go after Al Qaeda in Pakistan, Bush changed his position on Monday and said he would too. On Tuesday, Pakistan attacked some of the extremists in their border areas.

The horrible FISA amendment would have been defeated by Democrats, but the 42 Conservative Blue Dogs voted for it. The real Democrats were hamstrung by these conservatives.

My point is that we shouldn't be discouraged, Democrats are making progress. They've done a lot even though they have a slim majority and conservatives in their ranks. It's a heck of a lot better than last year!

Between the two parties we got like 160 far left liberal democrats running. Boy the lefties sure have a lots of choices this time. And the media is all in their corner too including Fox News (the Geraldo network) which pushes Hillary like vanilla crack.

No, nothing the neocons do surprises me anymore. They lied their way into Iraq and now they're waiting to dump the whole mess on the Dumb One's successor.
Liberals are just that - liberal. They don't heel like their right-wing countrymen who obey the dictates of the AIPAC funded neocons to the letter.
What is left, someone who is more centerist - more capable of dealing with both sides of issues.

The far right faction of the Republican party will lose a great deal of power after the election of 2008. The majority of the general public has lost their trust of the Republicans. Every session has more Republicans and Democrats in congress meeting in the middle. Neither the far right nor the far left is good for our country and the majority of it's citizens.

Why does America only have two political parties?
Most Western countries have several.
Anyway, to answer, the question I do find it unusual as an outsider looking in.

Anything in the middle gets squished. Middle means you have no ideas and no conviction. I would say you are not middle just balanced.

"neocons" as you say are actually the ones with logic and use this in forming opinions on issues. Liberals and Democrats are the ones who make partisan politics an issue out of everything. If Republicans are in favor of something, libs/ Dems just HAVE to be against it.
